The socialist & communist monuments across eastern Europe serve as a continued reminder of where socialism eventually leads. Yes, they represent death and slavery worse than any other horror in recorded history before the 20th century but it is good to leave them up so we can look to them and say "never again."

As to the violence, free speech means tolerating ugly speech. If Kshama Sawant's Maoist goals and visions were ever realized it would means millions, maybe even billions, dead. But we should not encourage people to forcefully silence her, Bernie or anyone else. Having a free society means we must tolerate ugly speech.
