Would you rather they made no *ahistorical participation trophies" to commemorate our fight? See how easy it can be to end up on the wrong side of history? History is written by the winners. It is, but those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Wow... I started this thread, not cause I actually want to go have that crappy statue torn down, but because I am sick and tired of the snowflakes ripping down all of our historical monuments and statues. I don't give two fucks about Fremont or their "weirdness" or their shitty statue. I just, for once, would like to see the look on the fuckhead liberal's faces when they were faced with the bullshit they bombard us with daily...
PS: I had no idea that there was actually going to be a protest at the statue... this was merely a sleep deprivation-inspired rant, based on my own growing frustration and anger towards the leftism that has infected our country and the weak minded citizens who live here.

I personally hate those Damn Commies as much as the next red blooded American, but if the statue in question really is private property on private property...
We shouldn't be talking about tearing it down. Right to property and also 1st amendment makes this pretty clear.
However, when we're talking about public statues on public property, we can easily talk about why those may or may not be appropriate.

Private Property, Privately Funded.
Nothing even close to being the same.

It is however, being kept in trust by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, until a buyer is found... Still really don't give two shits if it stands or falls. Won't change anything about my life. Just like to point that tid bit out. :-)

Of COURSE private property rules.
But it's more than disingenuous to hide behind that instead of addressing the actual issue.
It's wrong to be tearing down the statues. Except by the same legal means that put them up there in the first place.
And if those legal means are followed... If you want to mount a LEGAL protest rally, with permits and all... It is wrong to attack your rally in any violent manner.

However, when we're talking about public statues on public property, we can easily talk about why those may or may not be appropriate. I sat on a border bearing witness to murders of entire families, individuals and those that would run back to help others fleeing to democracy by Soviet Security Forces. Yea..... I'm a bit resentful, resentful of that period of time more so than the soldiers on the other side. I was just a period of time that is was......well no words to describe, its just the way it was back then. I have as much concern of a socialist era statue, as the hammering man in Seattle, both ugly as hell. It's history, remember those that suffered and how those that created the pain rose to power, to never repeat. It is a part of our past that you cannot erase by means of making something disappear. There is a shit ton of things/items/words etc that anger me, but I do not, and will not force my opinion on someone that believes or feels different than me. It's a friggen democracy, we're all different and all disagree. Tearing down all our past and only allowed to see one part, is bookmark socialism and I prefer to vote... I do not see the statue in Fremont anymore than what it is, art and immortalization of someone from the past. I don't respect that person or statue, but it is a candid reminder of OUR past, regardless on what side of the world it happened and shouldn't be yanked down in anger or bitterness. While the situation on that border still angers me to this day, I also understand that the defenders of that nation felt it was in their best interest and security to shoot civilians in the back AT THAT TIME in HISTORY, followed orders as directed, whether wilfully or not they had a mission. They did their duty, as I did mine for that period of time in history. Respect of others goes a loooong ways.
