He actually offered his resignation on August 7th, but the scuttlebutt is it wasn't accepted until a few days ago.
I think Trump is right, Bannon got a lot of unfair, dishonest press. He was not racist or an anti-Semite. And he worked hard to craft a brilliant campaign that the media was totally unprepared for. In many ways helped Trump defeat both political parties and the media. He made Karl Rove look like a novice.
In the end his bizarre ideas on raising taxes on the producers of society and his dovish, surrender views on North Korea did him in.
We are about to enter budget talks and tax policy crafting time as well as possible military action with NK, both things that Bannon diverges on. It's better that departs now but hopefully Trump keeps him on tap for 2020.
