Removing yellowjacket nest

Yeah, they are yellow jackets.

About three times in 6 years I've had them burrowed in a nest in the ground. I've just buried them alive. Once I sprayed in and sealed the entrance, but the last time I simply dropped a flat stone on their opening and it was over.

I feel bad but I can't take the chance of me or my dogs getting stung badly.

Now though, I'm weighing the cost/benefit of trying to get them vs. leaving them be.

They are in an awkward spot under my back deck. Low area. Hard to get to and their nest is really concealed. They've successfully accomplished layered perimeter security.

Fire is not an option. It's right under my house deck.

So if I attack with liquids I may very well likely just get the 10% I can see. Next might be deep or concealed somehow.

I'm almost sure they are nested in a pocket under the carpet/padding I laid.

I wonder if i can get a long rope and some sort of a hook, like a 3 prong fishing hook, and hook the carpet piece, and from afar, drag it out to expose them. See what I'm dealing with.

I can't otherwise really get to them very well since I think the nest is going to be deep and horizontal.

Or I guess I can call and expert... anyone know what a bee exterminator might reasonably charge?

^^ This is what we call a hornet nest... Our colloquial terminology may be off. These paper nests are built full of hate and contempt for mankind.

The one below are full of cool little guys who live and let live, unlike the murderous little fucking bastards in the paper nest above.

Try to get a picture of it. If it's the nice guys, beekeepers are known to come over and safely remove them. They want the swarm. Bees are cool.

The beekeepers won't want a wasp nest. They're after honey bees (not as brightly colored, and are fuzzy and dont fuck with you unless you step on them or sit on them.)

Sooooo many ways to take these mofos out, ranging from boring to insanely creative (emphasis on "insane"). I actually think it was my calling in life and I just missed it. I've used everything from charcoal BBQs to vacuums, but the best ones involve flame-throwing.

Any way you can post a pic of the nest? That might help us give you a plan of attack that won't turn you into a pin cushion.

EDIT: Nevermind, just read your other post. Smoke 'em out maybe? I dunno...sounds like a tough spot.

GunsforLibs is right about the vacuum. I like to put a half cup of Borax into the Shop-vac and then get the bees inside the vacuum. They will die within 24 hours inside there with the Borax.

Those are the little bastards. I admire their pluck for sure. As a kid I loved entering into warfare with them, but now I only break out the flamethrowers if I really need to get some stuff done close to them.

Sure of course. Sometimes people scream "yellowjacket/wasp/hornet" and it's really a honey bee. That's why I was hoping for photos of the bee/nest.

Check up in your local CL. There are people who remove even underground nests for free.
