I guess we don’t want to secure the borders against anything… What is the balloon going to see that their satellites can't see already? Intercepting radiowave/microwave communications/transmissions. SIGINT to win it, as I always say. At that altitude, a wet spaghetti noodle would be all the antenna you'd need to cover tens of thousands of square miles.

I see a lot of people (on the webs) chastising state .gov for not intercepting and shooting it down….
Serious question, do states have that ability? Is there a state vs federal airspace that gives power to the governor to intercept/eliminate a device at 60,000’ without Federal “permission”?

Doesn't matter. Feds won't enforce federal and international airspace law. Biden wouldn't protect us even if China landed troop ships on our beaches. Besides we're in a post legal society. What's Biden going to do if the Montana Air Guard shoots down Xi's balloon?

Forget what the people want the states to do. I want the US GOVERNMENT to take action. How hard is it to fly an F16 up there and fire a missile... THROUGH IT? Disarm the warhead so it doesn't blow up. We have to bring in down NOW!

I’m kinda worried about what it contains. Shooting it to pieces might be a bad idea. They should have flown up there and slung a rope around it and towed it to Canada and let them deal with it.

Captured whole is the way to go.
Definite proof of ill intent is better than a debris field that could be anything.

Sleepy will wait for it to fly out over the ocean and then blast it. He'll say something like, "Oh darn, I guess we won't learn anything from that mess." His handlers (China) will be pleased.

Got it US downs Chinese balloon, a flashpoint in US-China tensionshttps://apnews.com/article/politics-united-states-government-china-antony-blinken-51e49202f2a0a50541cde059934c4cfbQuote: The balloon was spotted Saturday morning over the Carolinas as it approached the Atlantic coast. At about 2:40 p.m. EST, an F-22 fighter jet fired a missile at the balloon, puncturing it while it was about 6 nautical miles off the coast near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Pentagon officials said.
Officials said the debris landed in 47 feet of water, shallowed than they had expected. It was not immediately clear how long the recovery would take. The Navy is taking the lead, supported by the Coast Guard.

I'm sure there are layers: WA Constitution: Article III SECTION 8 COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF. He shall be commander-in-chief of the military in the state except when they shall be called into the service of the United States. Article X SECTION 2 ORGANIZATION — DISCIPLINE — OFFICERS — POWER TO CALL OUT. ... The governor shall have power to call forth the militia to execute the laws of the state to suppress insurrections and repel invasions. After Katrina the Fed Gov. usurped some of the authority of the Nat'l Guard from the States* (tyrannical cunts), but unless the Fed Gov specifically restricted Governor Lisply from acting, it looks like he has legal authority to act. https://www.domesticpreparedness.com/pr ... nal-guard/My guess is he would have been told to stand down had he announced his intention to intercept, but he might have gotten away with acting first and begging forgiveness later. My guess is this authority exists in the several states. *https://tenthamendmentcenter.com/2007/01/12/governors-lose-in-power-struggle-over-national-guard/
