We just got a Ring doorbell and it’s pretty nice. There’s a little more delay to it than I’d like but it’s ok.
Ring also makes outdoor floodlight cameras too. Planning to get one of those.
Cloud pricing is reasonable. $30/year per device. Or $100/yr for unlimited devices.

I have a coworker that got the Arlo Pro cameras. He said in his research he found that the standard Arlo cameras use some silly ass CR123 batteries but the Arlo Pro models use rechargeable batts. Says he loves the system. Thats my two cents.

Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys. It realizes the ancient dream of the Jovian thunderbolt, and as such it is the embodiment of personal power. For this reason it exercises a curious influence over the minds of most men, and in its best examples it constitutes an object of affection unmatched by any other inanimate object.

I run Arlo Pro's and battery life varies from 2-4 weeks depending on the traffic areas. I have cameras as far as 75yds away. The new Arlo Pro 2's are 1040p compared to 720p of the older model. My internet is 5mbps and the streaming and cloud recording works pretty well.

I have one of the basic HD four camera + DVR hard wired systems from Amazon. I bought it a few years ago for around $250 I believe. I have a rambler so it was very easy to mount the cameras and run the wires up in to the attic. I don't use a smart phone for anything and don't care about monitoring remotely so it works for me. I live on a few acres with a 300' driveway so I've also placed a few "Proof" brand trail cams out there, which double as security and let me know when the deer have been poking around too. They produce very high quality photos but I haven't used the video feature on it. Endless options out there, just depends on what you want your system to do for you

I run these cameras outdoors http://a.co/fEyEPNN and these inside http://a.co/gKDvdyb with a Power over Ethernet switch in my attic to run to each of them. For storage I use a home server with Zoneminder as the DVR https://zoneminder.com storing on a local 1.7tb storage array that can tolerate 2 drive failures. Using motion detection in the software I've been running 4 1080p cameras for 2 months and have only used 9% of the storage. I don't like wireless cameras, especially after the WPA2 client vulnerabilities revealed last year, many cameras don't have a patch available and can compromise the security of your wireless network.

You would probably like the Swann system better IMHO. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Swann-NVR8-7400-4MP-2TB-NVR-with-8-x-NHD-818-4MP-Bullet-Cameras-SWNVK-874008-US/207200481It is a power over network cable connection, but they work great and the app makes monitoring free. You can also offsite store the video as well. I have been pleased with the functionality vs. cost. The boot time for all the stand alone battery powered types was a non-starter after experimenting with several types mentioned here. Again IMHO. Mine has not skipped a beat in two years
