British reporter. They refer to fries as "chips." Words mean nothing to those people.

Good news...Sam, my little Salmon, received his acceptance letter and official scholarship offer to the University of Washington on Saturday. So now he has that, plus his 529(k), plus the scholarship from the government of Spain.

Bad news...still waiting on the University of British Columbia--if he goes to a Canadian school for his undergrad, he can go to any medical school in the U.S. or Canada. It doesn't work the other way around--he earns his baccalaureate down here, he is ineligible to apply to a Canadian medical school. Plus he's already been accepted at McGill, but he thinks that's too far away. Result? Teen angst.

The pic is of him with UW propaganda included in the acceptance packet.

Ermm, that's what they're called, by most of the world. Just like what Americans call "chips", the rest of the world calls "crisps". Although I'll give you the British reporter thing.

And yes, people seem to use "floor" and "ground" interchangeably. They're not interchangeable; you can even use them in the same sentence. To wit, "He fell from the eighth floor balcony to ground below".

I hate ground being called floor.

You can put flooring on the ground but you can't put grounding on the floor.

But you can put a ground through the floor into the ground!

And yeah, it's not just the English that say that.

That's why it's a pet peeve. It's lazy Americans, and usually it's the media...

Growing up in the barrio my friends would always say floor when we were outside and ground in the house. Not proper English.

Right? And in typical teenager fashion, he just blew it off like it isn't a thing to be admitted to one of the top ranked universities in the United States, and be offered a full merit scholarship. Just walks past me in the kitchen on his way out of the door and said something like "I'll be back by 9:30, taking Raina (his gf) out to dinner to celebrate the UW accepting me". I was like, wait just a hot minute there, what did you just say?

Turns out they notify you by email first and then the packet arrives a few days later.

He does track and field now, the shotput and the discus and something else...long jump, I think. He's been asked to go out for rowing, since I flat refused to allow him to go out for football. He's tall (just shy of 6'3" the last time we checked, in October) and weighs in at around 225, so it's been pretty much a constant battle with the football coach at his HS to keep him from trying out, although he did do that 40 second thing (or 40 metres, maybe?) that coaches look for in football players. Apparently he did it well, because he's been bombarded in the past six months with requests for tryouts at various universities.

Anyway. Thank you. I am a very proud mama right about now.

Isn't it funny how Teens show next to no excitement over something like that? Well, boy's anyway.

A great day for you both, proud Mama indeed. :thumbsup2:

Good news. I had an appointment tomorrow for an evaluation with both a hearing specialist, and an ear, nose, throat doctor. (Chronic sinusitis.)

Bad news. They call today... To tell me the doc is sick and I have to reschedule. (I didn't think those guys were allowed to get sick... LOL)

Good news, now I don't have to get up at 4am tomorrow, to make it on time for the first appointment.

Bad news, the new appointment is next tuesday. And I had planned a trip down to Tacoma afterward. Don't want to also reschedule that.

Good news. The new appointment is for 12:30. So I STILL don't have to get up at 4am for an appointment with these people.

Good news. I've never been to these places before. So I decided to drive out there anyway, tomorrow. Leaving at a time that I think will get me there at about 12:30. We'll see how close I get. LOL And yes, then I'll go on out to Tacoma afterward.

Bad news. Been a day since my last dose of antibiotic. The infections caused by the bad teeth, that made it into my sinuses... is already getting worse again. And now it will be a week before I see the doc about it.

Call either the dentist or doctor who prescribed & explain & ask them to call in a refill that will last 'til you get to the doctor.

Most antibiotic scripts are for less than a week, but if you let them know you're getting worse, they may extend it.

Good news-
Had a sleep study done to find out why I feel more tired in the morning than I do when I go to bed.

Bad news- $35 copay to listen to a lady read the sleep study findings to me. 19 min appt. including 10 mins wait time. She tells me I need a CPAP. (No shit Sherlock)

Bad news- we only do CPAP fittings in Thursdays and next avail appt is for April 11.

FUCK...... they could have done both in the same appt.

UPDATE-

They just called me and they can fit me in tomorrow. Hallelujah!
