Good: I can see my American flag through the picture window.

Bad: The reason I can see it is because it is at half-mast for the fallen Marines.

Good news. I was mightily entertained yesterday afternoon watching this guy:

Image

This rat would pop under the fence, stand for a few seconds to make sure it was safe, then run down to the bird feeder, grab a mouthful of seed from the ground, and jet back to safety behind the fence. About 30 seconds later, he would repeat the process. Over, and over, and over again -- I probably saw him do it 50 times at least.

The bad news: I have a rat in the backyard. I don't care too much about that, but it's too close to the house for comfort.

More bad news coming . . . for him.

For the last couple of days we have had jets - as in F15's & 22's flying overhead... EXTREMLY LOW and FAST.
Now I like jets, military stuff but gawd damn, I live pretty much in the city limits far, far away from any flight path and the air base is 40 miles away.
Dead silence and then 105db blasting by.
Scares the crap out of you when you're not expecting it.

Is that a rat or a vole or some other rodent-esque critter?

Yeah, it's a good-sized rat with a long tail. I had plenty of opportunities to study it.

It was a Rat, i was there. Steve lazed it for range but wouldn't let me unload on it. Too many Liberal neighbors and i was only packing a Glock 42.

.380 being such a wimpy round, they might have bounced off the critter at 40 feet and Steve wanted a quiet and a clean kill.

I offered to go get something quieter for the Job, but he had other plans for the Vermin. I suspect by now it is no longer respirating.
