Quote:
Javier Mercado, 16, was home alone when he heard several people break into his family’s house. He says he dialed 911 and hid in a bathroom closet.

Meanwhile his German shepherd Rex ran in to defend the home.

“As soon as he heard the window shatter, he ran downstairs full charge,” Mercado said. “And then I just heard a bunch of barking and struggling, and then one of the guys screaming, The dog! The dog bit me! Get the dog!’”

After a long tussle, Mercado says he heard four gunshots, and the dog cried out. Seconds later, he says, police arrived, and the burglars fled.

“I think if it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be standing here today,” Mercado said about Rex.

The family says Rex was shot three times, once in the neck and one shot in each hind leg. As of Wednesday he was stable and awaiting surgery at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Seattle.

I donated to the gofundme page for his Surgery earlier today. It was 8,000 dollars for the Surgery, the neck wound was the most serious of them all.
They were close to the 10,000 goal when I left for work, that Dog deserves to live.

Edit: They have raised over 22,000 now. That will take care of other stuff beyond the like saving surgery. :thumbsup2:

Read the description of what that Dog did on the Gofundme page written by a family member. A little more to the story than KOMO put out.

Good Dog indeed.

That magnificent good boy deserves a huge filet mignon, a golden chalice filled with the finest of toilet waters, and an entire basket of chew toys. Damn right he protected his humans.

"Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm -- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves." – T.S. Eliot

"The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction." - St. George Tucker

"To ban guns because criminals use them is to tell the innocent and law-abiding that their rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the guilty and the lawless, and that the law will permit them to have only such rights and liberties as the lawless will allow...

For society does not control crime, ever, by forcing the law-abiding to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of criminals. Society controls crime by forcing the criminals to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of the law-abiding." - Jeff Snyder

Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys. It realizes the ancient dream of the Jovian thunderbolt, and as such it is the embodiment of personal power. For this reason it exercises a curious influence over the minds of most men, and in its best examples it constitutes an object of affection unmatched by any other inanimate object.

The family sent out a letter that the excess funds beyond the Dog's care will be distributed to Animal welfare Orgs. :thumbsup2:

That is some serious break-in if the criminals are carrying and willing to shoot.

That dog deserves to gnaw on the aortas of the cocksucking, douchebag-slurping, asshole-licking savages who did this to him. If he chooses to rinse afterward with toilet water, I'm OK with that.

Nice pic of our hero Rex in the article. Best wishes for a speedy and full canine recovery.
