Spoke with a member of MRC one day. He lived on a farm near the northern border (now there are four nations that border SA, and since this was a conversation that occurred in the span of time it takes while walking from the 100 yard targets back to the benches, we didn't have a lot of time to go into it)

But he started talking about defending the ranch he was on... talked about defending against the nightly incursions by armed and violent YOUTH.... nasty business...

Said that politically motivated people would roll into the desperately poor villages across the border, hand some crude weapons and a few hands full of ammo to these young people and point them across the river with instructions to harm who they could/take what they could carry...and if they DIDN'T, then their family would be harmed...

Now, the political machine seems to instead be drumming up the entitlement sentiment within the country with essentially the same results.

You would figure though, that the leadership would have noticed Mugabe's troubles with evicting a class of people who produce food and revenue. And would see the success Mozambique is having with Zimbabwe's former farmers.

A decent documentary, but (other than the obvious conflict/near-genocide/murder/racism) a few things bother me.

1. Where were the interviews of a disparaged black family? Interviewing members of an extremist movement probably does not equate to the plight of the average black family and their personal hardships. Both sides are experiencing unrest and hardship. In my opinion this would have framed the true culprit, the failure of the SA government.
2. Did anyone else find the amount of slow motion glamour shots of this girl a little disturbing, especially in the middle of such serious content?

last update I song this was that the government there was saying that they weren't going to immediately do it claiming that it would only be done in limited circumstances in small cases and that they would have to go through the courts and would not amend their constitution in the meantime. Basically that's code for get out while you can because eventually we're going to do this to most of you and will just threaten you in the meantime and try to get you to abandon this stuff so it won't cost us anything and we won't have to engage in political maneuvering or constitutional changes to get it done.

Wouldn't want to do anything illegal, have to follow the constitution.
Guess they could give up subsistence farming and go back to being hunter/gatherers.
