A restaurant in New Orleans is hoping to raise awareness of racial wealth differences in the country by charging white customers more.
SAARTJ is a pop-up restaurant in the Louisiana city run by local Nigerian chef Tunde Wey who will be charging white customers $18 extra for their meal.
In 2013, a study found that the average household income of an African-American in the city was 54 per cent lower than that of a white person.
Customers have two price options to choose from. Either $12 or the suggested price of $30
As Tunde explains the standard price is available to everyone, but only white customers will be asked to consider the suggested price.
You may be wondering where the extra cash is going to. Rather than going straight back into the business Tunde is hoping to redistribute back to his black customers, but he only managed to find six people who have signed up for the scheme.

He'll be filing for bankruptcy within a few months, then seen on TV crying about his failed business, and blaming white people for his stupid decision to charge them more.

Yeah I don`t mind blowing $30 on lunch but not at some place that is a window in the wall, Hell there are some killer taco trucks up here that you can get a good lunch for $10. If it was a sit down joint with really good food that is not a problem.

So wait. He wants us to think, though provoking....that kind of thing.

1) He got attention. What? Six people signed up, but a whole lot of pretty low cost advertising.
2) If 1 is true or stated as some truth in a proper statement, then he probably doesn't think us white folks are stupid, stupid enough to pay an extra $18 for food - because we all know we would not want any racist assumptions.
3) And lastly a further corollary is, I'm pretty sure he isn't saying people of color need some kind of hand all the time, and that they are repressed by people who are so stupid they will pay an extra $18 for chow, because that would be really stupid.



Fail. But the low cost advertising, short term win.

Heard an interview of this guy by Dori Monson today. He claims 80% of his white customers pay the higher price. They can pay the lower price if they want. He has a lot of stupid customers. It’s no wonder this country is so messed up.

That white guilt indoctrination must be working.

If he is serious about wealth inequality, why doesn't he charge based on annual income?
