Re: Woman struck and killed by self-driving Uber vehicle

Some entity did a film on that same stretch of road at same time of day with same conditions, with a camera that more mimics what the human eye see's, it's not as dark as what's shown. More than enough time, if I recall they said 4.6 seconds at the speed posted by driverless car.
But another twist in this, Uber had turned off some type of avoidance device in the car. Someone is pretty much screwed.

Any details on this?

But again, I'd be surprised that the woman would not be visible to human eyes for the entire duration she was on the road. A human would not plow into her at full speed (18mph above the speed limit), no brakes.

Looks like the 'driver' was watching The Voice when she struck and killed a pedestrian.

The crash of an Uber self-driving car that killed an Arizona woman in March was “entirely avoidable,” according to police reports released by the Tempe Police Department. Cellphone data obtained by police suggests that the Uber operator was also streaming an episode of reality show The Voice at the time of the fatal incident.

Yup.

It's called don't jaywalk, or run in the middle of the road (You fucking idiot)

It's not the driver's responsibility to make sure a pedestrian is safe.

Remember when TPD ran over the drunk guy in the street because he was fucking with his computer? Who's fault was it then?

Drunk person in the street...

Cop not in a self driving car, staring at a screen.... Drunk's fault.
Jane Doe in a self driving car, staring at a screen... Driver's fault.

How the fuck does that work?

It's not *that* strong of a yank of the wheel but if a little pissant snowflake was driving or some lady putting on her face in the sun visor mirror, that You-Con would've been opened up like the side of Danny's car when he went up against Leo on Thunder Road.

Cars that think for me can get fucked. That goes for ABS, traction control, all of it. Fastest laps are done with the nanny switches OFF. Responsibility lies with a dumbed down, National Nanny, lowest common denominator Transportation Bureaucracy that insures a driver's license to anyone who can fog a mirror, then mandates a bags-and-belts cocoon to protect them when they run into each other, which is inevitable because they have no idea what they're doing out there.

Been saying this shit for years.
Cars with plugs, cap and rotor will be the only ones running when they detonate an EMS 20 miles up.

I'm betting Rudolf Diesel and Robert Lister would disagree with that assessment ;)

If you'd punched it and hit 88mph the flux capacitor would have kicked in and you could have avoided the situation entirely. Just sayin...
