They called me up!

Asked me if my fridge was running.

I told them I don't live here anymore.

I was a little over a year out when 9/11 hit. I called in because this same rumor was going around and in the news. The recruit station looked me up and said I did my 8 years. They were looking for those over 4 but under 8 and only very specific MOSs. 11B wasn’t it. Or 31P. I suspect this is more rumor than fact.

Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys. It realizes the ancient dream of the Jovian thunderbolt, and as such it is the embodiment of personal power. For this reason it exercises a curious influence over the minds of most men, and in its best examples it constitutes an object of affection unmatched by any other inanimate object.

This article is a load of nonsense, and really folks need to apply a bit more logic and common sense. There's 0.0001% chance this would occur, and for it to occur, the world would need to be melting in nuclear waste and the sun blotted out.

First hint - It's "Los Angeles," not "Las Angeles."

Second hint - the logistical impracticality and "bang for the buck" would not be worth the effort. How many retirees have anything valuable to contribute? Seriously? I know a LOT of retirees. Most can't fit into a uniform, pass a medical or fitness test, and this isn't WWII (meaning tactics, training, and equipment changes drastically and rapidly. Not even using the same major systems as we used just 20 years ago.

Think back 20 years ago at the technology and equipment you were using, and it's probably almost obsolete today. Same with the military. You'd have to spend years just retraining the "experienced retirees" thereby defeating any point...

Finally, the military is TOP HEAVY in senior officers and Enlisted personnel. That is the LAST area the military needs backfilled. The military needs 18-22, fresh, easily trained, uninjured, eager to please recruits. Not 49-55 year old guys with a bad knees and back and a civilian attitude.

Shut up young un, and let us old farts have our dreams! (Our country needs us again!)

I saw the Las Angeles thing...I was like WTF, you want to be taken seriously?

Secondly, nothing is cited, it's just conjecture & opinion.

C'mon juk, ammoland? Really?

There are plenty of credible folks who are semi-literate, or less than careful with the keyboard. One misspelling does not make me disinclined to accept a premise.

There is/was a lawyer who participated on TOS (huskydawg or something like that) who's posts were painful to read; but apparently this did not greatly impact his ability to earn a living at practicing law.

Two things about this: one, as reported by Military Times (IIRC) and more than a few other sources, recruits are turning out without the ability to do even basic stuff like throw objects (see also: Army discontinues grenade throwing in basic training) or skills as simple as using a rifle scope.

second: there is some consensus among the tinfoil brigade and other prepping and alternative groups (like 3%'ers) that do believe former military are an essential foil against tyranny.

That is an interesting insight and useful to gauge the veracity of the article.

Same here, just a couple months over a year out, and told the exact same thing. But, I was offered to enlist as another MOS.
When all was said and done, I would've had to go through AIT all over again, loose rank etc etc. I had 8 1/2 years in.
I highly doubt there's much fact in that rumor.

No you aren't.
