Even under 594 you would still be sued by any victims families for selling the killer the gun even if the killer passed a background check.

I used the word accomplice instead of accessory to murder, on purpose.

If he had had no idea, but had tried helping his son afterward, for instance... Or had driven his son there and dropped him off, with an inkling of what could have happened, he might be considered an accessory.

But he KNEW his son was not allowed to have guns, and he HAD to have known there was good reason for it. Yet he gave the guns to his son anyway.

In my opinion, this makes him as much an accomplice, as if he had walked right beside his son, shooting people as well.
