I've got a buddy that uses 20 footers for shop space. He has had them moved in the past via a regular flat bed tow truck. It certainly makes moving them a lot less of an ordeal.

Interesting topic. What’s the legality of building a residential facility from those 40’ in WA? I have seen online bunch of very successful projects. None of them is in WA, though.

In order to get proper WSEC insulation requirements, you still have to furr in the exterior walls, which can really cramp down the space. The roof insulation is the tricky part, with most codes requiring 14" of insulation to achieve R-49, you are going to do a mix of rigid on the outside of the roof with a membrane and then a batt system furred from the ceiling, again, cramping the space.

Bingo They had me frame 2x6 walls inside. After sheetrock and cabinets on both sides there was about 20" left ETA- Here's a story about it: https://www-1.thenewstribune.com/news/business/article97712042.html

Once you start attaching anything to it - all building codes apply, including residential.

The city of Tacoma didn't really know how to inspect the container when I was working on it
The problem with that one was that it wasn't in it's final spot as we were building it. Is it a mobile home? A modular home? A travel trailer? Depending on what the final buyer wanted to do with it any of those could have applied. I guess they could have dropped it on a barge and then it would be a house boat

Having outfitted containers several different ways as offices for the industrial waste water business the height insulation issue is solved with a high cube. 9'6" rather then 8'. And as far as price goes you get what you pay for. Best money can buy are the one time use VS the multiple loads on the cheaper one's.
