While I get what you're trying to say, I'm not sure your examples support it.

Yes, we all can be hypocritical at times, but many of the comparisons you listed were opinions, or preferences, whereas gun rights are constitutional.

So I get your heart in the matter; and your points to be more open-minded are valid. I just think the gun rights aspect doesn't quite fit, though it does make the anti's that don't get that it's constitutional make a teensy bit more sense....

I wonder if perhaps the more accurate term here is ingroup vs outgroup and outgroup derogation. We all want to belong and groups tend to develop an identity to differentiate from other groups. The problems arise when groups begin to disparage other groups to make our group look better. We did it with the Japs and spics and wetbacks. The blacks did it with honky and cracker. We do it with Killary, gun grabber, and many other terms. The left is doing the same to the right. The outgroup derogation serves two purposes: disparage another to make one feel superior and to polarize discussion. It goes both ways. But it is equally harmful to rational dialog

Me and Chuck have had a long running good natured joke about his subie and my trucks.....
