So, my wife is heading to Anderson Island with a girlfriend....
Doesn't look like there's much there, so thought I'd see if anyone here knows anything about it.
Just trying to see if I can give her some helpful info.
They're doing some hiking, staying in a cabin, that kind of thing.

Yes, there is nothing there.
The few escapes off the penitentiary on McNeil Island have gone across Pitt Island to the west, so little worry of running into convicts.

She at least listens, when I talk about security

Truth be told, I'm hoping she digs it when they go...
A little get away thats safe, laid back, they can hike & exercise, yet close enough that, in an emergency, I can be there in less than an hour without going to Seattle or going over the pass...
That's a win in my book.

Have only taken the ferry back and forth from Steilacoom one time when I lived and worked in the area. The island is super quiet though there is one restaurant available:
https://www.sunset.com/travel/northwest/travel-back-in-time-to-washingtons-anderson-islandThey might want to try a couple options in Steilacoom before boarding the ferry:
Restaurant De La Terre is open for dinners and very nice
The Topside Bar and Grill is a great place for drinks. Deck has a great view as long as it's not raining (it is still June after all)
Another idea in the area is kayaking on the Sound. Metro Parks Tacoma has some organized trips OK for beginners:
https://www.metroparkstacoma.org/outdoor/The kayaking from Steilacoom to Ketron Island is pretty easy and really nice if you can find an option for that. Not too far and a good outing for inexperienced kayakers. At the time I went with a group organized by City of Olympia. Similar trips in the Nisqually refuge are also really great with lots of wildlife viewing opportunities.

The prison is closed and the convicts are gone. All she has to worry about is sex offenders.
