I suppose the FN P90 is just too old - good enough for the secret service. It's weight and 50 round mags would be a plus.

p90 rocks. FA demo at The Range in yakima next time you are in town. you will be amazed at the lack of recoil/muzzle rise in fa mode. no comparison to tavor for concealability/maneuverability.

Gonna love to see the results.

Or...maybe they should be considering a krinkov style PDW. Short OAL with folded stock. No buffer tube. 7.62x39 still hits relatively hard out of a short barrel. Ammo is everywhere. Field tested? Check.

Sometimes the answer is in the past, not the future.

A Rifle caliber Cartridge isn't really practical for a PDW Weapon. Muzzle blast, Recoil, etc. I Love my M92 Krinkov style SBR, but for close in situations and inside a building? No thanks....

I call that thing the "Hammer" for a reason. :rofl9: 9mm is a great choice in my opinion, and you really can't beat a Folding Stock Scorpion SBR for many reasons.

Any variation of the MP-5 too. :thumbsup2:

And logistically better. Fewer new parts to introduce/obtain - just barrels/handguards.

I know I'd rather have 5.56 over 9mm, but even a "short M4" has a relatively long OAL compared to the aforementioned PDWs. That's my chief complaint about my AR SBRs (7.5" 9mm and 8.5" .300 BLK)...they're still long and heavy.

I would agree, except they're testing MP5s which are nothing if not long and heavy. Maybe a MP5K would be ok.

I think these types of tests are done for a few reasons, and neither has anything to do with actually sourcing anything. The first is to provide field grade officers with something to do, and the second is too make sure we aren't missing out on a class of weapon that might be useful. Kind of a insurance policy to make sure we aren't overlooking something.

Suppressed EVO K (micro).... FTW

MP5 = old, outdated, heavy

The current offering would be the UMP.

I love my Mini Draco with sidefolding brace...

But without hearing protection, you're gonna be deaf after first round out, permanently if you're indoors, and they don't suppress that well..

Intermediate calibers that rely on speed and fragmentation, ie 5.56, means high velocity, high pressure, and longer/heavier suppressors...

From a logistics standpoint, 9mm would be easier to supply than .45.

Keep in mind, these people spec MOTOR OIL to be used in transmissions and transfer cases, because 'it works good enough', and they don't wanna have a different fluid to be needed to complicate their supply chain....

My Scorpion SBR is one of my Favorites. Compact and fast, it makes anybody a good CQB shooter. :thumbsup2:

Kicking the thread due to some follow-up articles on TFB. They specifically cover the MP5 clones and the H&K UMP-9 entry:
There's also some discussion of the 9mm vs 223 vs 300 Blackout debate.

I was just looking through the articles for the gold-plated SMG entry but haven't found it so far. Must be in the black budget :ROFLMAO:

Cost in the military procurement world often includes accessories, spare parts, and long term factory support. Still, pretty damn steep.

I'll stick with the Grease Gun, M3.
Slow, fat and hit hard. Albeit as accurate as throwing fistfuls of rocks at a moving target..
I loved that gun, and a blast to shoot!
