and shows a picture of Sinus' work

Seriously though. The first picture is a sample of the surprises One gets when tearing stuff out for a remodel.

Troll!!

Seriously though the misinformed strike again. The first picture is a floor installed over sleepers. It's a common installation technique in other parts of the country where slab foundations are common. Also used for gym floors to give them some "spring " to the surface. There's nothing wrong in that picture other than it's messy underneath which was probably staged for the picture.

Well, I stand (on your floor) corrected.

You can lap those ends unsupported like that, hunh? Who knew?

Gym floor systems all the boards are milled to exacting lengths so you can put all the end butts on the sleepers. Residential...meh. They do what they do.

Well, what caught my eye is that some of those butts do NOT lap on the sleepers. (There are two in the picture that are obviously cut, but the third row from the left, the but ends are not on a sleeper. So is the seventh or eight row.

Additionally it looks like they have only a two inch + or - overlap on some of the ends. Not what my boss Sinus tells me he wants. (and then hits me with the hose)

Look again and tell me what you think.

Do the boards innerlock with each other on the sides and ends? If so, I don't think it would be critical for them to end at the sleepers. On the other hand if they are butt faces then it's critical they end at the sleepers. Or you could step at the right spot and snap the board in half.

All the exposed ends in the picture are cut out for a patch but you're absolutely right there are 4 butt joints in the installed floor that don't land on the sleepers. 1 joint is basically halfway between.

Snozz the ends of the boards are also tongue and groove but do very little for the structure of the floor. The long edges of the boards being tongue and groove are what give the floor strength. The end butts are interlocked mostly to avoid squeaks.

And when your slab weeps moisture in the wet season your carpet will make a lovely petri dish for moisture loving bacteria and fungus. :thumbsup2:

This is why I would use a natural jute fiber pad under carpet. Jute will at least breath.

I wonder how many of these complaints are the result of contractors picking up illegal day laborers out of the Home Depot parking lot?

Meh.

Put in grow lights, and toss a handful of pot seeds down.

Water, fertilize, and wait for harvest season to hand roll some food craving bombers.
