Unless you are a contractor you will likely never burn up these newer drills. Lithium ion battery is a must, other than that pick the color that matches your shirt best. I have an older 19.2v craftsman set that should have failed many times. They have hit the ground from 6ft or more a bunch of times. They don’t really feel all that quality in my hand compared to some of the newer drills I have held. They get used way more than the average homeowner and have had zero issues. They are beat to shit and the drill heads are loose and sloppy, they still work great. Point is, buy a kit to get the tools you need to save money and you will be happy. Dewalt, Mikita, Milwaukee, Ryobi Craftsmen Black and Decker are all going to do what you need. Also look at what add on tools are available for down the road and their prices.

@golddigger14s: Saw this on another forum if you're interested.
But if you buy a Dewalt circular saw (Bare tool) and get a battery + charger for free. Basically a $100 for free.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B007NVSTCK/ ... UTF8&psc=1I ended up getting the Ryobi starter kit myself, nice tool/price for weekends warriors.

I ended up getting a Ryobi brushless, two batteries, and a carry bag for $99.
$90 with military discount.

I started out with the drill + impact driver + 2 batts for $99 (-$50 for signing up for HD card) --- totally worth it. I was mainly after the impact driver ---- never knew how awesome they were until I used one --- its a MUST have - keeps from draining the batt on the drill when trying to sink screws - perfect. The drill came along to replace my aging Makita 9.6V that I love, but feel its reaching its end of life after 24 years.... I'm down to one battery and don't think I can convince myself to go and buy new nicads --- even if they are 2 for ~$50.
The killer feature about the Ryobi drill/drivers is that little magnet on the base for holding screws ---- BRILLIANT!!!! Haven't seen that feature on any other makes.... I can live without the light, but that magnet is soooo handy at the worst times....
The other thing I like is that the tool foot/battery pack allows the drill/driver to stand up nicely - with or without the battery in it --- most other brands topple over pretty easily.
Haven't felt the need to pick up anything else yet since I have corded tools, but the sawzall is high on the list --- and the flashlights/work lights seem like a good idea too since the battery paks are always there... perfect for a stroll and power outages --- problem is, they are kinda spendy for just a 'flashlight'.....
Getting a sawzall and/or circular saw will require getting a bigger battery pak to be really useful, but when the time comes, it will be worth it.
Surprising they didn't have any 'killer deals' on the Ryobis over the 4th --- they had them for Memorial and Fathers day....
