wspd7pio: Update: ETA 1 hour before we can get a lane or two open south bound at the wrong way fatality scene. Detectives are on scene now and mapping the scene with their UAV.

UPDATE 5:56 p.m. from WSP: Southbound I-5 just north of SR 530 remains closed during the investigation. Traffic is being detoured to SR 530. Unknown ETA for I-5 to reopen.

Update 5:41PM: Trooper Travis Shearer of the Washington State Patrol has confirmed that this was a one fatality accident. Due to a wrong-way driver.

UPDATE 5:39 p.m.: All southbound lanes remain blocked south of SR 530. Emergency crews are routing southbound I-5 traffic off of the interstate at SR 530. Southbound backup is 4+ miles, past SR 532/Stanwood. No northbound lanes are currently blocked but traffic is backed up past SR 531 as people driving make their way past this crash scene. Avoid the area.

Wrong way fatality update 1 of 2: There are 4 separate collisions caused by wrong way driver. The 4th is the fatality collision just north of HWY 530 on SB I-5. The causing driver is under arrest for DUI. This is a Vehiclular Homicide Investigation.

It is worthy of a reminder as this cost lives every day
