Anyone used PODS or other moveable storage?

Sat Jul 07, 2018 3:13 pm

We're moving at the end of July and considering getting a PODS unit or some other similar moveable storage to move the garage contents. Has anyone used PODS or another similar company for moving? Anything similar that you'd suggest? Better deals? Better solutions?

yep. Had a few customers use PODS to get ther shiite outta my way while the remodel is ongoing (to protect their junk, really)

Can't vouch for the price but the service is solid.

Pods convenience trumps everything else. so much is chaotic during a move, having the storage right there lets you optimize your time and take advantage of changing circumstances, such as helpers showing up.

When you have small kids, hiring movers to both pack and move you is the way to go. It isn’t cheap (expect $2500 depending on the size of your house) but it’s worth every penny to save your sanity.

We’ve used Jordan River moving company a couple times. One time everything went off without a hitch. The most recent time, we had scheduling issues with the packing (I told them I wanted a morning appt but they put me on the schedule for about 6pm).

Aside from the scheduling issue, which pissed me off a lot cause it impacted my kids’ routine, they were great. The actual movers and packers hustled and worked their butts off. They were great.

I just called a few of the companies (PODS, Pack Rat, UPack) for quotes. PODS was the cheapest, easiest to deal with, and most informative. They also have a USAA member discount of 10% That saves us almost $50. Looks like we're going with PODS.

It'll be nice to be able to load all the garage contents in there and not have to worry about unloading it ASAP at the new house since the rental is 30 days. I'm sure we'll get a moving truck for the main contents of the house. Which leads me to my next question.

Which moving truck company do you guys recommend? We're moving a 1500 sq ft 3br house about 30 miles. Unlimited miles etc. won't be a big deal, we just need the best truck, best price, and best company to work with.

Roger that! I can drive large trucks no problem. My work van that I drive every day is a small box van it's just so customized with mounted shelving that using it to move isn't ideal.

Good thinking on the drop off location. Moving to Marysville so I'd assume most major companies have a location near there.

We used Jordan River to move from Yelm to Arkansas and I would recommend them. They were no bullshit when they came and packed up the ENTIRE house in hours, and communicated very well with us through delivery. It was pretty awesome watching two 125 lb. guys slinging my safe onto their truck like nothing.

PODS definitely works but is expensive.

Used pods when we moved just to store a bbq and a lot of outdoor furniture and some dressers. I would say for that it was alright except my bbq got a little rusty in storage so I don't think where they were storing was 100% climate controlled

I used PODS when I moved across country. It was trouble free.

I was moving valuables that I could not personally transport, and did not want movers to see or access due to theft. Have them park the POD tight against the garage so you have a extra layer of security/access. Use double locks, of high quality. Taking your stuff right from garage to POD offers some level of privacy and the doors facing each other with inches of gap add security.

I priced several options at the time, almost 10 years ago. Every situation is unique but this was the best option at the time for me.

If I were moving I'd seriously look at the POD option again.

PODS and lift gates.

PODS has moved me three times, once across the country.

You might need to use your business as the renter to get a truck with a lift gate.
