Even though I'm retired, and this doesn't affect me, my thoughts are are torn on whether this is a good or bad thing.

If you're an infantry platoon sergeant, it doesn't matter if you're 25 or 55; all will be held to the same fitness standards with the future Army Combat Fitness Test.
The new test does away with age-specific standards and sets requirements based on job demands instead, Army officials said.
The current Army Physical Fitness Test is based on a scoring scale that does not require older soldiers to perform as well as their younger counterparts.
The new ACFT, which is scheduled to replace the APFT in October 2020, will consist of a scoring scale that's based on standards soldiers need to meet to survive in combat, according to Maj. Gen. Malcolm Frost, who is overseeing the ACFT as commanding general of the U.S. Army Center of Initial Military Training."

Good thing.
I passed a couple hungover and puking during sit ups, and still maxed the test AFTER I blew chunks.
If you can pass the PT test hungover, dehydrated, tossing last night's pizza and worn out then the old PT test isn't testing your stamina and ability.
Thought the test was a joke to begin with.
Being combat ready has to mean more than passing an extremely easy pt test.

Gonna be interesting for those crusty E-8s and E-9s who subsist solely on coffee and cigarettes and are on profile (usually to get out of the run). I don't see how they are handling profiles, if at all.

Maybe they'll just lower standards for everyone to match the 55+ crowd. So yes, 25 year old E2 could still blow chunks and pass the test. I would have loved to see that!!

Does this also do away with the silly standards between men and women?
So does this mean everyone regardless of age, sex, or other details get tested the same?
I did notice they will adjust based on job duties so that will protect those arm chair seniors.

I disagree with the change eliminating differences for age.
The logic being that younger soldiers are relied on more for their physical abilities, but older soldiers for experience and knowledge. And of course, biology kicks in as we age and changes happen as metabolism slows and things shift.

Don't confuse job duties with MOS. I was a 14S Avenger crewmember which is a coed (now) combat MOS. My last couple of years I was a desk jockey (a glorified travel agent). So my PT test would be based on being a 14S. I was about fifty when I retired, and there is no way I could do what I could do in my prime at 28. I bet I could still do the crew drills that we used to do, not as fast but still within time standards. (I won't lie and say it wouldn't kick my ass though.) As others mentioned us old farts are needed more for our knowledge, and experience. Let the youngsters do the door kicking with the plans we OF's put together for them. My door kicking days are over, but I will be teaching the new kids how to kick ass once again as a civilian.

What's MOS? What's 14S?
I would expect the test for "desk jockey" to be different than the test for "door kicking".
You can have a fat fuck desk jockey and a 40 year old peak physical conditioning door kicker.

My point is that even though I was doing a desk type job, I was still a holder of a combat job. Out of all the jobs we get trained to do, very few of us actually perform those duties. For example my job involved air defense, and the last time the US Army shot down a hostile aircraft was in the 50's. My whole career I kept current in my air defense job skills, but most of the time was spent doing more mundane things.

When I went in 82' from the time I got in 90', there was a huge change in what I saw as physically fit.
I think that regardless of MOS, everyone should have the exact same standards on the PT test whether it's a blue cord holder, or pen holder. It's not a social experiment, it's a force of individuals to protect our country and freedom. Every swinging dick, regardless of duties, should be able to fight to defend.
If you're in an out of fat camp, the thought of the PT test brings anxiety, years long profile and thinking of work leaves you outta breath, you should be a civilian, today.
Hard reality folks, it's not supposed to be a easy walk in the park 9-5 job, you fucking get shot at an die in this shit, for shit pay.

Actually the pay now a days is pretty good. $1800 just for housing in the Tacoma area. The Marines no matter what your "job title" is, you are a Marine! I will give them credit for that mind set.
