This is just plain inhospitable. Home owner should have offered them a beer, and perhaps a sandwich.

Few people have an "exterior-strength" lock on the door to the garage. This is a big tactical mistake *if you leave the garage-door opener in your car*...

Yep - that was one of the first things I did when I bought the house --- put a deadbolt and locking knob on the garage door --- it confounded me why they weren't put in in the first place..... it only had a non-locking 'bedroom' door knob for the garage door????? WTF?
