Some back story: Quote: Reed pleaded guilty in 2013 to arranging for a cell phone and food to be smuggled to her niece, who was being held in the Alorton Police Department lockup on charges that she assaulted a pregnant woman. Because of her guilty plea, Reed lost her position as keeper of criminal records at the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office, a $27,000 a year job that she augmented with her $15,000 mayor’s salary.
When she pleaded guilty to the contraband charge three years ago, Reed told the BND at the time, “It is an unfortunate situation for me. I have been told by numerous officers that bringing money, cellphones and cigarettes into the jail is a common practice. ... I am a good person, and the people who really know me will tell anybody that.” I guess nobody told her that she needed to shove those things up her ass to get through security. Oops. So honest mistake, lets just move on, nobody's perfe.... Oh crap Nine face corruption charges, including East St. Louis councilwoman, Board of Review member https://www.bnd.com/news/local/article118959858.htmlQuote: According to criminal complaints issued by the St. Clair County state’s attorney’s office: Jo Ann Reed, 58, former mayor of Alorton, was charged with knowingly giving or promising to give money to another person to vote, or to influence that person to vote for or against any candidate or ballot question. She is also accused of electioneering within 100 feet of a polling place. Not related to the former mayor but interesting none-the-less: Quote: Kelly pointed out that both Oliver Hamilton and June Hamilton Dean were paid, in part, from state and federal grants received by the township for an anti-violence program called “Ceasefire.”
“It’s fair to ask if there are bodies of government in Illinois outliving their uselessness that are vulnerable to this kind of corruption,” Kelly said at a press conference. “While the people of East St. Louis continue to suffer from a disproportionate amount of violence, and while police officers are risking their lives to stop it, you have two public officials underwriting their phony-baloney jobs with a so-called Ceasefire grant.” Damn, Looks like her political career is over. I mean what kind of idiot would vote fo... You've GOT to be kidding me. Alorton mayor-elect can take office, but could lose it — again https://www.bnd.com/news/local/article148802934.htmlQuote: Despite facing her second felony prosecution in three years, Reed received financial support this year from prominent St. Clair County Democrats, including $1,500 from the law firm of county Democratic boss Robert Sprague; $1,000 from the law firm of Belleville attorney Tom Keefe; and $1,000 from County Board Chairman Mark Kern. Scoggins, Reed’s attorney on the criminal charge, contributed $8,000 to her campaign through his law firm. I'm sure this can't happen. There has to be more evidence for all this corruptions an once we find it she's done fo... Suspicious Fire Destroys IL Mayor's Home https://www.firehouse.com/prevention-investigation/investigation-equipment/news/21004905/suspicious-fire-destroys-alorton-il-mayors-homeQuote: “No doubt an accelerant was put to it. The house has no power," he added. OK. SOME mistakes were made. By now she's living on borrowed time. There's no way in hell she would risk anything more by doing something stupi... You have GOT to be kidding me (Part 2) The mayor drives a village-owned squad car, with lights, siren — and handicapped placard https://www.bnd.com/latest-news/article214781565.htmlOf the use of a police car: Quote: “We did not approve that,” said Village Trustee Gwen McCallum. And the handicapped placard: Quote: ...Reed did not have a state-issued handicapped placard, which allows the vehicle owner to park in special parking spots. But her father, Albert Reed, did apply and receive one of the placards...

The entire state of Illinois is a train wreck. To be avoided at all cost and hopefully to become a protectorate of the federal government once the loonies have run it ten miles into the ground. Unfortunately we are not far behind them.

To borrow from Marion Barry's campaign, "She may not be perfect, but she's perfect for Alorton, IL."

As a former IL resident, I can tell you - this is nothing. Back in the 1950s, this area was booming. The around 1960, they closed the stockyards in East St. Louis (right next door). By the 1980s, bad was an understatement. I did some work there in the early 1990s. The city police would escort us to the Interstate every evening to make sure we got out town safely. They had one squad care with a headlight smashed out and the radios didn't work. it was bad.

It feels like it should be a season of a show like "Parks and Recreation" and not real life shenanigans.

If you have ever been down there you could see how the area was once pretty nice. Actually it is a quite historic area. Now, you take your life into your own hands driving down there.

Now, you take your life into your own hands driving down there. 4 years ago I helped my son move to his new CG station in NC. We needed fuel in the rental truck & trailer with the BMW M5 in tow so figured the first exit past the Mighty Miss bridge would be memorable.... It sure was.... We pulled in and the pumps card reader was inoperable so the kid goes inside to pay. I have my head on a swivel constantly not knowing the area because I am concealed carrying my XDM40 and notice a bunch of black people standing around across the street and they looked like they didn't like us for some reason... My son comes out fast & with a concerned look on his face & said "lets get the PHUK out of here NOW"!!! So I jump into the passenger side & we leave post haste... He tells me that the black lady behind the bullet proof cage said "you be a brave assed Honkey comin in this place, lucky you ain't been shot". NO SHIT!!!
