Recommendations for good HVAC co in Pierce Cty

Sun Jul 22, 2018 5:25 pm

Second summer in a row our system has started failing. Last year we had 2 companies out, 1st one was not familiar/did not like computerized systems, but got system running for a week. Second was the Co that in stalled it years ago.l They replaced a board and said all good. System just has not been keeping house cool, even on 80* days it struggles, today it popped with system failure and is not blowing cold at all. I have a call into installer again, but they are really expensive (Their freon price was double other places I checked last year.)

Hopefully someone can recommend a place that is not our for blood and a kidney on pricing.

We have a Carrier system.

My oldest son works for Pacific Heating and Cooling. I'm not sure if that's one of the companies you tried. Call them up, there in Lakewood, his name is Gordon, request him. He's a pretty smart cookie

Pacific in Lakewood also gets my vote.

If they're actually using Freon (R-22) it is basically banned and the only way to get it is reclaimed through recycling, so the supply is going down. R-22 prices are getting crazy. If they're using 408A or 410A (I forget what is used residentially now) it is still fairly expensive.

Thanks that is 2 for Pacific. I am giving original installer until 9 to call us back, then telling them to forget it and scheduling Pacific.

This system is only 10yrs old, post when the EPA did all the banning on the good stuff.

Thanks guys.

I had a couple pounds of coolant added to my AC a couple months ago. I want to say it came out to like $90ish. Coolant just isn't cheap. That was Midwest pricing, so Tacoma may be steeper.

check their coupons too https://www.pacificheatingcooling.com/h ... -tacoma-wa

Avoid All-Seasons. On installation, they cut the PVC too short and it started leaking. Sent a guy out to fix and he argued about it being too short and insisted on re-gluing. Of course it leaked again. For the second repair (1 day later) they wanted to charge me to come out. Second repair, different guy, re-cut the pipe.

They installed a high end air cleaner which I needed for my mom. Didn't explain that it had to be disassembled for cleaning. I was having them service the furnace. After 5 years, it kept giving me a replace filter warning. Filters are about $90 a pop (large 3 inch thick paper cartridges). I'd replace the filter and 2 days later get a warning. When they came out for servicing, I explained the issue and they (2 -guys) went to look at it. Came back and told me that I'd snagged the filter when I put it in. I was like, I don't think so and I don't think that's the problem. I went down and looked and there was a clean diagonal cut the full length of the brand new filter through the first layer of paper. Looked like someone had taken a utility knife to it.

Called someone else. Guy came out and looked. Came and got me and said - its because the filter has never been cleaned. Turns out you have to disassemble the the air cleaner and vacuum the inside out, you know about once a year. He did it, showed me how to do it. Told me it was so dirty, it would have to be done again in about a week and that I should do it. After that, they'd do it during the annual inspection. Told me a snag or cut on the replaceable air filter would have little or no effect on performance unless it went all the away through because the dirt will just catch on the inner layer.

I just clean it every time I change the air filter now - about every 9-10 months and havne't had a problem since.

HAH!! That is who installed my system originally and did the "final fix" last year. Sounds like half-assed is the norm for them. On install they had laid the 230VAC line over the 8" flexduct they just installed, collapsing it, made them come back and fix that. Last year I called to ask when they could come out and got their 2x market rate freon quote, I told them I would let them know if I wanted them to come out. Went with diff company. While that company was onsite doing work, All Seasons just shows up, no appointment, no call.

I will call Pacific here in a few minutes and make sure to tell All Seasons NOT to come out. THANKS GUYS!

Actually it looks like there are two of them now. All Seasons Heating (Midland) & Climate and All Seasons Inc (Tacoma) My installer was the former..

This was the place I used https://wantheat.com/ in Tacoma. I was kind of surprised by it all. On the bid, the owner came out himself. Bid was good, but not too cheap as sound an alarm. When I was told I'd be charged for the second repair visit, I called the owner directly and he was very apologetic and that the office had probably just misunderstood. He also told me over the phone that he'd have his best guy out to replace the pipe - free of charge. It seemed like he cared and that his employees just let him down (quality of employees is a constant complaint I have from friends who have businesses). But after the air cleaner problem, he'd had his last chance.

Yup,
That is the place that did my install.

I called them and told them to disregard, my system was not needing service. Then called Pacific and unfortunately the earliest they can come is tomorrow morning.
