Pulled over for the first time in 5 years (gun in car)

So tonight the family and I went out to enumclaw to try and the northern lights. Well on the way back I'm driving along doing roughly 43-45 (verified by speedo and Waze at the time) in a 40 and I see flashing lights about 1/4 of a mile behind me. Expecting him to be on his way somewhere. I pull off to the side and boy was I surprised when he pulled in behind me because I never even saw him on the side of the road. He says I was doing 56 in a 40 and I said no way was I doing 56 I never speed. He says that's what his radar said and I was the only one around. My wife asked when the raidar was last calibrated and he said this week. At this point he asks for my license and registration. I inform him I have my permit and there is a firearm in the glovebox with the paper work ( it usually isn't there but it was because I drove 400 miles the day prior) he asks to see my license and permit, looks at them and tells me to get the paper work from the glove box, after handing him the insurance paperwork thinking I had the registration my wife closed the glove box with her knee. I only had the insurance in the stack he said not to worry about the registration and asked when the last time I had a speeding ticket was, he looked surprised when I told him 14 years ago (I'm 32 now) then said he would check my driving record. Came back about 5 min later said again his raidar said 56 but he is going to let me off with a warning and to drive safe. Stop went very well even though I truly was only doing 43-45.

I think he was just bored and saw a modified sports car and wanted to see if I had anything he could get me for (2016 Subaru sti)

I drive like a Grandma. Only time I get pulled over is if they want to tell me a head lamp is out or something.

Glad it worked out for you.
The last ticket I got was in 2007 transitioning from 70 mph to 60 mph on I-90 as you enter Issy west bound. I was 65 mph when I hit the 60.
Sure as sh*t, lights on. State patrol asked me a ton of questions about my new FJ Cruiser (first year the retro came out) and gave me a ticket for 5 over. I'm convinced he did it in order to get first hand experience of the vehicle from the owner, and STILL gave me a ticket.

Personally in states that do not require it, I never let an officer know I have a firearm unless they ask, or unless the firearm is stored where the car paperwork is stored (and it is not stored in the same location)

Presently, there are 12 explicit duty to inform states. In these states, you have to inform a police officer that you are carrying a firearm. You will also have to produce a concealed carry permit for the officer to verify that a person is legally carrying. Those states are: Alaska Arkansas Louisiana Maine Michigan Nebraska North Carolina Ohio Oklahoma South Carolina Texas. Continue reading at: http://aliengearholsters.com/blog/which ... rm-states/
Don't give me I just want to be polite BS. If they don't ask (in WA), it's none of their business. I was stopped for a traffic infraction, not a gun related infraction.

I hardly ever get pulled over, and I’ve never received a speeding ticket. However,!ive has two similar issues where the cop has either outright lied or been seriously mistaken.

The first time, I was pulled over on 405 for driving 95 mph. I just laughed when the cop told me that, since I was only going, I dunno, maybe 65 or something. He went through the whole routine and finally let me go, so obviously he knew he was wrong or lying since you don’t just let someone go who’s driving 95 mph.

In the other situation, I was in a neighborhood near home in the early morning. As soon as I turned on my car, my radar detector lit up like a Christmas tree so I *knew* there was a cop nearby, and of course I started driving like a perfect angel. At a stop sign, I made sure I stopped completely and then I counted 1, 2, 3 before I started moving again. Thirty seconds later the cop appeared, pulled me over and told me that I didn’t stop for the stop sign. And again, I was let go without a ticket although he gave me some tough talk about my driving.

Both of those experiences left kind of a sour taste in my mouth, and reading the OP here got me a little pissed off all over again.

I got a warning a couple of weeks ago. No gun questions were ever asked, no gun info was ever offered. No big deal.

And uh guys ... as noted in the OP, he told the officer about the gun because it was in the glove box with the paperwork.

And? Still not required.

True. And that story would play well at your funeral.

Glad it worked out for you! It's always nice to get just a warning. So yeah, did you catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights or what?

I've been pulled over plenty of times, and in multiple instances should have received a lot more than a speeding ticket, but I've been let off with a warning all but 1 time - ironically, the only time I didn't do anything wrong. I was getting on the West Seattle Bridge headed east and traveling in the right lane, being passed by one car after another (I was in a big slow suburban). Cop pulled me over and said I was speeding and gave me a ticket. Bullshit! If I was speeding, then the cars passing me on the left were driving recklessly! He was in and out in about 2 minutes - I'm convinced he was just trying to meet his quota. Anyway, I paid the ticket and figured I was just making up for all the times I've been let go with a warning. But it still pisses me off to think about it!
