What a dumb ass. As she drove off she knew there was a cop right behind her. https://omaha.com/news/crime/council-bl ... 74e77.htmlNORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A driver from Council Bluffs was stopped twice for speeding near North Platte on Saturday — the second time for driving over 140 mph. The 2018 Ford Mustang first was stopped a mile west of North Platte on Interstate 80. Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies had been alerted about 1 a.m. to watch for the westbound car between Brady and Maxwell, which are east of North Platte. Deputies stopped the car, which was driving 92 mph in a 75 mph zone. The driver, a 31-year-old Council Bluffs woman, was issued a citation for speeding and allowed to leave. But as the car pulled away, the Sheriff's Office said, it accelerated rapidly. The deputies' radar eventually clocked the car's speed at 142 mph.

how fast was the cop going to stay in line of site to allow the car to get to 142mph reading. And why did he wait till she got up to 142 to pull her over again? or was this another cop down the road that got this reading?

Article said after she received the ticket, she left rapidly. Doesn't say whether he followed her or called ahead.

I did 120 one time, and thought that was scary. A 142 after getting a ticket WTF?

I was traveling through Nebraska DECADES ago, driving a rental Ryder truck.... trying to keep up with the flow of traffic. Hwy Patrol Stood on top of an overpass and shot radar at traffic and radioed ahead. A whole gaggle of cops STOOD in the middle of the hwy flagging every motorist to the side of the road (early morning... early 80's... Nebraska). Gave me a whopper of a ticket.

Same here.... took the new car on a road trip to Denver when I first got it and decided to open it up on I84 in Idaho --- I backed off once I past 125 even tho the road was straight as an arrow for as far as the eye could see.... kinda unnerving at that speed when you don't do it much, if at all. I remember thinking all it would take is a jack rabbit or coyote popping out of the scrub and I'd be screwed.... It was a bit scary to feel the car become 'unsettled' when you lift off the gas --- sudden or drastic inputs are not good at that speed. I had no problem doing 90, but much more than that just wasn't 'comfortable'.... Anyone doing 140 off a track deserves to get the book and everything else thrown at them --- I don't care how 'capable' you think you are, thats just flat out dangerous --- average people just don't have the skillset to drive at that speed, even tho the cars are capable.

That woman's a knucklehead, twice over.
I wouldn't dream of driving anything over 100 mph in the States, and only anything approaching that on the lonely, uncrowded interstates in the inter-urban West. Basically our highways are not really designed for those speeds and our driving habits as a populace make it highly dangerous if there's many people on the road. Way too much unpredictability in other drivers behavior and the potential for mistakes in your own driving. So it becomes grossly unsafe to others and disrespectful to our laws here.
Have been to Germany twice and the Autobahn is a bit of a different story. The unposted sections are essentially speed unlimited but there are unwritten rules of the road which are strictly followed (i.e. no passing on the right EVER, when passing pull left get it done in a hurry then pull back right to resume your lower/normal speed, and NEVER pull out in front of an overtaking car while passing to try to beat somebody to the fast lane). Plus the design of the highways is way better than in the United States for the most part.
Be that as it may I maxed out my rental cars on every trip, finding out on 3 occasions that rental cars are typically governed to max out about 125 mph. That gives you the ability to travel in the middle lane with an occasional fast lane pass when there's no upcoming traffic behind you. I found driving at those speeds to be pretty damn awesome but also mentally quite tiring. Basically it becomes really hard to mentally stay in front of the car at those speeds. I could really only maintain it for so long before wanting to pull to the right to slow down and drive at a more manageable 90-100 mph which is basically the flow of traffic in the middle lane of the autobahn.

Even in Germany in the few places that still have no speed limit, they have a rule of not exceeding the conditions. If it's say foggy you can't just drive 100 mpm.

Oh yes definitely you're expected to drive safe for roadway and weather conditions, it's pretty structured and most definitely not a free for all. Germans are very rule oriented and enforce the driving rules with high beaming and other techniques if you're breaking rules or driving unsafely On the autobahn I always took the approach of driving in the slow lane for quite a while to watch other people's driving, speeds, behaviors, road signage, etc. then gradually bump up my speed once I have figured out what's going on.

She is lucky to be alive. Agree, anything over 90 gets really sketchy. I'd be curious how she removed the governor. I'm pretty sure Ford and most auto manufacturers install one. My Ford topped out at 125.

Way back when I was younger I had a Suzuki GSXR, got it up to like 150-160 once, was amazing. On a bike so I had to do a full tuck, wasn’t sustained for long, that was the fastest I’ve ever been. Hit 120 a few times since then in cars. Hit 100 last week in my Challenger SRT. Car actually felt better than at lower speeds. Lol
Way back when I was a kid, I was fighting with my now ex wife, back when we were dating and and had a fight over whatever. So I was driving mad and got pulled over for doing like 82 in a 65, after the cop gave me a ticket, I got back on it and sped away, tried taking it to court to fight it and he had me on video before and hit the overpass after I pulled away and re tagged me at like 77, needless say the judge had no leniency for me.

I'm surprised at all of the nanny comments here. Maybe she was a trained, professional driver? Just because you don't feel comfortable at those speeds doesn't mean she doesn't.
Certainly 90-100 doesn't sound too bad when the speed limit (guideline!) is 80 in places in Montana. It is more or less moral to go 95 in an 80 zone or 90? I'd wager a guess that 90% of the population exceeds the speed limit on a regular basis.

Even though I drive a Subaru, I usually drive about 5 over the limit. But 142? Even I think that is crazy on a strait away with no traffic. I wouldn't approve of Mario Andretti doing 140+ on a public roadway.
