Weekend White Water Rafting the White Salmon River
Tue Jul 24, 2018 8:09 pm
The wife and I spent the weekend in Hood River for this rafting trip. Followed up by sampling all the local micro breweries down there.
I was in dire need of some down time and this was just the ticket. The wife disembarked the raft just before we went over this last falls, Husum Falls. She recorded it in slow motion from the bridge above. I'm the idiot in the middle on the right hand side of the raft raising my victory fist at the bottom of the falls. A great time was had!!

Looks like fun. Haven't been rafting in years since an old girlfriend worked as a river rafting guide in Northern California. Planning to spend some time in Hood River next July and doing some gate training (skiing) at Timberline on Mt Hood.
What were your favorite microbreweries in Hood River? I do like the Full Sail tasting room with the overlook of the river but haven't explored beyond that.

This place was awesome! Everybody's Brewing located in the small community of White Salmon. It was the first place we hit after the beating we took on the river. The food was great and the beer was cold and refreshing. Just what we needed with temps hitting 98 degrees outside!
Another favorite spot in Hood River is the Double Mountain Brewery. In addition to the fantastic selection of beer is their stone fired pizza! The crowds here are a constant but it is well worth the wait for a table. This place is about a block away from Full Sail.
Another favorite about 15-20 minutes down the highway in Cascade Locks is Thunder Island Brewing. Again, these guys are as well known for their good food as they are for the myriad of brews they have available. It was hard to pick a favorite with so many to choose from.
There were more but I'm recounting the only ones I can think of at the moment. It's just incredible how many micro breweries thrive in the Columbia basin. A beer drinkers and outdoor sportsmans paradise.

Thanks!! Hood River is a really nice area, one of my favorite spots in the Northwest. I've never actually been on the highway on the Washington side of the river, will have to check out the rafting on the White Salmon over there.
Appreciate the tips on the Double Mountain and Thunder Island breweries. Will have to check them out on our vacation next summer!!!
Might try to pack in a day on the river fishing after we get done skiing at Timberline Have always wanted to try my hand at sturgeon.
