Using newly primed brass would be more entertaining. But then, we used to play 'bullet chicken' at parties. Put a .22 LR shell on the electric stove burner and see who was the last one to leave before it went off. Takes a lot of heat to set of a primer. Bullet doesn't move more than a couple inches.

I think that looks really cool, like artwork Definitely takes time & talent to make that. For me, I would be a bit hesitant to use it as a trivet. Sliding a heavy pot or pan across that could scratch the bottom. Aside from impugning the longevity of the pan, scratches can create hot spots within the pan while cooking. Again, much respect and major props for the artistry & talent, though.
