So even though it's a stolen car, they arrested 3 people and dude was reaching for a rifle, even after all that they still need a search warrant for the car? I don't know about probable cause but seems like they have enough

Dotting your i's and crossing your t's. Pretty common. Doesn't take long to get a warrant nowadays and they have plenty of time with everyone in custody.
