I'm sure the cop is thinking about the repercussions of the "accident" and it affected his actions. Like the feeling you get when you see the blue lights in your mirror... that pit in your stomach

He was probably thinking about the potential for having to look for a new job...

Yes, he should have been concentrating on the well-being of the cyclist. But he's still human too.

Glass houses and all that.

That some cops hide behind the blue line and evade responsibility for many stupid acts and how that plays on public perception is evident in the responses here.

Yep. pretty fucked up. Bad choices. Vindictiveness. All on display.

I'm really surprised by the tone of this thread. Nasty, snarky... "Pigs" Really, guys...

I know some people react to fear with anger. I suspect that is what happened to the bicyclist. He was very nasty and aggressive, and the officer wasn't going to have a chance to interact with him. Yeah, it was a mistake and the officer admitted he was at fault. Of course he has to call another officer - at least in our jurisdiction the officer is required to call another officer when the first officer is involved in an incident.

Aaand, the humor. "Protect and swerve" is pretty funny!

To be fair, this is a mistake that would land many civilians in jail or at least arrested and processed for a day and with an arrest record.

Lol, that reminded me of tukwila pd if you flip the roles around, especially for people of color.

Oh and if you want a cite to my outrageous statement....

https://youtu.be/xHFeeef2fyQ

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-ne ... ng-arrest/

“.....officers found a man yelling and dancing in a freight yard.”

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-ne ... -lawsuits/

“Federal court records show that Tukwila — which has a police department of 79 sworn officers, a population of about 20,000 people and a major retail center in Southcenter mall — has paid out more than $1.5 million to settle seven civil-rights lawsuits against officers since 2014, mostly involving allegations of excessive use of force during arrests.”

I'm so sick of these anti-cop posts.

Cops have a dangerous job.

He had a split second decision to make, between paying attention to the road and checking his phone, under enormous stress..Until you're behind the wheel of a cruiser driving 15 MPH into a turn, trying to check a txt message, you have no right to second guess his decisions.

If you wanna criticize a cop's driving, go to the academy.

I read a few, but there's over 9000 comments. I'm just surprised nobody here caught that a few days ago!

I'm just disappointed that the cop did not even apologize. That's kinda shitty.
