The pilot project started in April 2017. It was originally set to last three years, and explore the effectiveness of providing a basic income to those living on low incomes — whether they were working or not.

Damn, $40k a year for two people who stay unmarried legally and one has ADHD or some other recognized mild disability? $46k if they both can demonstrate a mild disability.... hell, I'd almost take them up on that!even the base plus half of what I make working is still a raise from my current income by over 50%... no wonder it failed.

My brothers girlfriend lives in Paris, and has been on the dole for maybe 20 years.
If she needs more money for a vacation from not working, she writes a medical article for the extra money (freelance writer, probably does it under the table).
Says the tax rate is so high, there isn't really any point in working. Make about same working or not.
Her parents are crazy rich, own vineyards, a few wineries, wine stores, and a castle. But she still gets that 'free money'.

Listen, I've heard just about all these. And you know, they might actually work for several people in very narrow circumstances. BUT all the arguments fail hard, just as communism fails hard. They fail to acknowledge basic human social nature. I'm not necessarily saying man is lazy, but most people in groups will just do enough to find the easiest path. And take it.
