For those that say Russell isn't elite, and should be considered in the top 5 active Qb's.. Well how about these career numbers?

Sure the sample size of 6 years compared to 13+ of others will be skewed a bit, but most of those QB's got better as their career got longer. Russ has hit the ground running.

Go Hawks.

No doubt Russell has had a great career and any team would take him in a heartbeat.

However, comparing him to legends in the past is apples and oranges. The game is so different today than in say the pre-2000 or pre-1990 era that skill positions like QB really cannot even be compared fairly.

I remember an era when a 300 yard game with 2 TD passes was a remarkable feat. Now, it's so common that it's almost expected. The rules, training, offense schemes, etc. have drastically changed in favor of the QB, running backs, and entire offenses.

Same with RBs. 1000 yard season was a benchmark. Now it's an expectation.

No modern running back could touch the ability of Barry Sanders, Walther Payton, etc. but many put up better numbers.

Players are also bigger, faster, and train all year compared to years past where they smoked cigarettes in the locker room lol.

That's true on both sides of the ball though. So mostly a wash.

The changes in QB training are drastic. In the "best era" IMO (1970 - 1980s - 1990s) it was more ability based and toughness. Now, it's all "science" and nutrition. Timing routes, 3/5/7 step drop, extremely favorable rules for the offense (late hits, holding, interference, etc.) and more use of complex offenses, play calling, audibles, shotgun, run-and-gun, 2 minute offense, and motion schemes, etc. Defenses have been unable to keep up and haven't radically changed much. It's still just 11 guys able to move around at will and get in different packages. Teams can also kick longer field goals routinely today. 60 yards used to be a feat. Now it's not out of the question. But most of the advances and advantages have come on the offense side of the ball.

I also recall an era when an offense had little realistic ability to score in the last two minutes. Now, it's routine that a team can score TWICE in the last two minutes.

It makes it more exciting I guess for the person who likes a dominating offense. I think it would be exciting if there was a change that helped the defense. Maybe 12 men on defense!?

Guys back then played the game to play and did hardly anything in the offseason to keep in shape.
Guys today grind 11 months a year.

Don't be ridiculous. The athleticism, size, and speed of defensive players is greater than in years past.

Payton played part of his career in the 14 game season era. Even then, a top running back would get more than 1,000 yards. This is also when an average QB was a 50% passer with about as many TDs as INTs. Teams ran more because it worked well and passing didn't. The average DT was about 275lbs back then too.

Sanders I agree far more...he was special. I just don't think he'd be any more effective in this era. A bad O line like he ran behind is pretty common nowadays.

The defense was dominant last night. Regardless of terrible refs, I dont think the outcome would have been any different. The score may have been a bit different, but the overall outcome would still have been the Hawks dominated that game. That pass rush is a killer. Going to be creating problems into the playoffs. They do need to work on their red zone offense though. Not a very good showing there. Everywhere else they seemed to move the ball well against a good defense. Considering most thought 8-8 would be a good way to end the season, they are set to be a 10 win team, and possibly an 11 win team.

Hawks are I believe 10th in the NFL in red zone scoring, so that's not terrible. The Vikings are no slouch on defense, and overall Im pretty happy how last night turned out.

#gohawks

It was a good game for the Hawks, but they didn't seem to be firing on all cylinders. The Viking's D has us wrapped up pretty well and we are lucky that their Offense was in the toilet.

I'm positive that they will continue to grow off of this. We "SHOULD" dominate 2 of the next 3 games.

Obviously happy with the win, but the red zone follies were maddening and getting eaten up with screen passes was another sore point.

If this had been the Chiefs we would be looking at a 31-9 loss.

31-9? LOL, the Chiefs offense is a beast no doubt and will give the Hawks issues but their defense pales in comparison on the Vikings.

Minnesota is 5th overall in yards allowed, and the Chiefs are........30th.

Minnesota is 11th overall in points, allowed, the Chiefs are 28th...

Hard to believe anyone is still watching and supporting the kneelers. Poor oppressed millionaires who think they are above the law. Disgusting.
