I have an Australian friend in town for the next week, and he's looking to buy a recurve (not a compound) bow while he's here. He's going back and forth between Woodinville and Everett, but he's willing to travel around Puget Sound.

Can anyone suggest an archery store that would have a good selection of recurve bows?

Thanks!

Ah yes, he mentioned that place . . . he already went there, actually, and they apparently didn't have what he was looking for.

I bought my compound at Riverside Archery in Mount Vernon. The owners son is the resident recurve expert. Not positive they sell them though. Worth a call though.

A bit far, down in Enumclaw.
I've heard nothing but great things about them.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, folks. I've given him the link to this thread so he can check them out.

They were jerks to me when I went in trying to get help picking out my first bow. I was looking to drop some $$ and they basically told me to go do research online and come back when I knew what I wanted.

I can vouch that Rock Creek are awesome. I am not sure how much they do with recurves, and it is worth noting is that it is hunting season (modern right now) so they are sometimes closed when out in the field. DEF give them a call though, great people.

Same kind of review that Van Winkles got on the Whelp.

Is a deterrent to many entering the shooting sports too; at some gun shops big egos get in the way of compassion and true customer service.

You (we, everybody) should call that out AS IT HAPPENS in addition to the Whelp or online forum reviews. Store owners need to hear these complaints even if they are the source of the problem.

Infuriating to encounter, I agree.

Very true, especially with Archery. For those that have not shot, Archery is a very fit & feel oriented sport. You have to get the draw length and weight right or you will never be consistent or accurate. That is not something you can do over the internet, nor is feeling the draw cycle of a bow which varies significantly between models and brands.

I'm fairly certain Riverside sells recurves. The last time we were in there (a couple of months ago) a customer was buying one, though I don't know if it was a model that was available in the store or if they had ordered it.
