I'm buying a 3/4 ton diesel next year. I have no brand loyalty to either one of the three...Chevy, Ford, Ram.

Each seems to have a pretty good pedigree, and my arms length knowledge might give a nod to Ram, based solely on Dodge Cummins trucks which seemed to be bullet proof and still bring good dollars in the used market.

Most people are brand loyal...always a "Chevy guy", or "Ford guy", etc, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone here has "jumped ship", so to speak, and is driving a new to you brand, and if you think you upgraded, or made a mistake.

I personally would steer clear of Dodge (anything Fiat Chrysler makes) because their cars across most brands are consistently rated at the bottom of reliability and build quality.

With that said, I'm not a truck guy and I couldn't give the differences across brands so I may be just talking out of my ass.

If longevity and reliability are in the equation, and money no option, Toyota Tundra.

I have a 2017 F250 with zero complaints... if I were younger my only complaint would be lack of turbo noise..

My old neighbor had a Chevy 2500 that he really liked, but he also has had two each of the three brands you mentioned over 10yrs or so and they all had issues.

My SGM has a Ram 2500 and loves it. Has a ton of miles on it, thinks the world of it.

If you have to buy a symbolically American truck, it's a crap shoot, so drive them all and good luck.

Personally, I have a Tacoma, and think the interior is much less flimsy than the American made trucks. I highly reccomend Toyota trucks.

All trucks are a PILE OF SHIT.

If you dont absolutely need a 1ton/diesel, then get a Tundra.

This is the best advice. The cost of ownership of a newer diesel can be real high in the long run. If you do not absolutely need the power, get a gas truck. Any of the newer gas rigs will out pull my 7.3 diesel all day long.

I'm a big fan of Tundra, but it doesn't have the towing capacity I'm looking for. Getting a bigass 5th wheel.

I'm looking at getting a Tundra in the next few months.

Any particular years for used that are best?

Is new worth it?

What is the best trim package for Tundra?

This...

Just worked on a buddys 2010 Ram 3500 Cummins this week. Tons of power. Quiet and feels substantial. Solid truck.

I Hit him up again....Id love to buy that truck.

It has 60,000 on it.

Hard to explain but they drive small. It Feels like a small half ton short box in size. Its a 4 dr short box and I swear I could park it anywhere. Maybe hood design...body lines????? Cant explain t.

The Ford drives Big. I drove a 2018 F150 to Sacremental from Reno....4dr gas v6. It felt huge. Hard time estimating where the hood ended for parking...staying in lane on fwy as well...maybe its too boxy?

Tundra is a pretty heavy duty half ton as well for a gas rig.

I see their marketing is working. It's no more Cummins than you are Peter North. They license the name and slap it on there.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the Nissan Titan, and hope to drive the Xd or whatnot one of these days. I'm just not buying into their Cummins marketing.

To the OP, this is an endless debate. As you are looking for at LEAST a 3/4 ton DIESEL, I guess the Tundra guys will be disappointed.
I have been super happy with my 06 Cummins. All it does is tow my smoker, travel trailer, and occasionally a dump trailer for home projects. It's a workhorse. Then you talk with guys like Arisaka who has one and absolutely hates it. The main recommendation I would make is if buying used is the route you're going, look at 07.5 and older Cummins as they will have the 5.9l.
