Any particular years for used that are best?

Is new worth it?

What is the best trim package for Tundra?

I use JD powers as a guideline (not a bible) when looking at reliability numbers. You can go back to 1995 I believe.

I'll ask the question people should have started with: have you sat in them or driven them?

For me, I sat in a Dodge an immediately knew it wouldn't work for me. Same with the Nissan. They just don't fit me personally.

We eventually settled on a GMC. Even though it was the same as the Chevy on paper, it just felt put together a little bit better. I'm not brand loyal...I've had Ford's, GM's, and Imports over the years. You need to figure out what 2 or 3 brands fit you.

I know it's an endless debate, but it's kind of hard to get unbiased subjective info on line. It's either one sided bashing, or just recycling all the data, and saying "this is the truck you want because it has 8 more hp..." blah blah blah....

I appreciate the perspective of WaJim, how one drives "small" vs "big", and appreciating where the nose ends...I have that with my current car vs my old car.

I drive a Tundra occasionally, and if I wasn't getting a fifth wheel, my choice would have already been made.

I have to buy new, as I get an auto allowance from my company, can't buy used.

Honest question, what didnt fit you? Im 6'3" and 250lbs, and I fit great in my Ram, like I had said. However, I make sure and wear a kidney belt on most drives(/sarc.....sort of), but "fit" is great. Just curious. Ride is definitely not as nice as a Chevy/GMC. Thats what you get though with a heavy duty solid axle actual truck suspension instead of IFS that Chey/GMC has. Rams will never ride as well due to that alone.

When test driving trucks the Chevy place told us not to bother driving to GMC, they said it was the same truck. While it was similar the GMC felt very different.

Wife is pushing me toward Tundra for "reliability."

I see their marketing is working. It's no more Cummins than you are Peter North. They license the name and slap it on there.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the Nissan Titan, and hope to drive the Xd or whatnot one of these days. I'm just not buying into their Cummins marketing.

I was wondering about this...

What Diesel is it?

Isuzu?

yes. Well to my understanding anyway, it is an Isuzu that they licensed the Cummins name. Clever marketing really. Same with the little Duramax in the Canyons and such, just not sure the origins of that.

We're talking about 13 years ago now, but I just didn't like how the seat felt, the positioning of the radio controls....the whole thing really. I could fit in the thing fine, and I was 100 pounds less back then probably, but it just didn't "sit" right with me. Nothing against them. Seemed like a great truck, just not one I'd be comfortable in for a long period.

Fair enough. Thats exactly what I was wondering about. Makes sense. I may be in the minority, but I like the radio controls and such. Simple, easy to use. They dont look as nice, thats for sure.

Having lived and worked from sea to shining sea, I’ve come to the conclusion that truck brand loyalty is largely a geographical preference. Competing makes and models have good and bad.

I hauled 9000# + trailers here locally with Chevy 3500’s for several years. Drove ‘em like fat ass corvettes because they had the power to deliver, and I always had the next stop to get to. They were dependable, and fairly comfortable for my large frame. (6’4)

On the flip side, my little bro bought a brand new Silverado 2 years ago, and it was a complete POS lemon. It spent so much time at the dealership that they began ignoring him at the counter. Literally. They refused to talk to him anymore. Eventually that truck ran into an unfortunate boating accident, and he returned to driving the same older model of Ram that he’d had previously.

Now he spends most of his time in his gf’s Subaru because keeping gas in that Dodge seems to be a challenge.

It’s all relative brother....pick the one that suits you, and hope you get a winner.
