Cops come on scene and what?? Blast the guy with the gun? Not this time.

CPL guy showed restraint, but HE chose to put himself in harm's way..........

Knife Control in some other thread, but needed open discussion.

He did good, but the person with the mace probably kept the guy from having to shoot. It sounds like he wanted suicide by gun and might have forced the guy to shoot if the suspect hadn’t been maced by another bystander.

Definitely kept his cool and didn’t respond using deadly force.

I know many will judge this armed civilian... even us.

The problem is simple. We have almost all the facts.
He was there and knew enough? Did he see the stabbing? Knew enough that this person harmed another?

His action put himself in direct line with this guy.
Did the Stabber want to be shot? He says so but his body language was not. He didn’t push it.

I’m sure his mindset was to simply stop the guy from leaving a felony assault with a deadly weapon and maybe even murder (if the victim dies). He wanted to keep the guy there and like most of us may have thought by showing his gun the stabber would lay down.

It’s a fluid state and you can see the stabber didn’t follow commands. He wasn’t really threatening. Clearly as the civilian would of defended himself and others.

Some would say you can’t show your gun unless you are going to use it. He used it to curtail the stabber and somewhat limit his movements. He kept him from mixing into the crowd and getting away.

He used it to match the need. He was clearly ready but the situation in the video shows that gray area. Had the stabber charge or clearly threatened to the level of needing to be stopped - the civilian would of taken it to the next step.

Lots of good from a bad situation. No one else was harmed. Good guy with a gun - used well.

Life isn’t perfect nor is it clear cut.

Hope she makes it.

He wasn't real serious about suicide by someone else shooting him. He never rushed the armed citizen, nor did he rush the LEOs. Just a cowardly POS who couldn't stand the thought of his ex keeping his kids. If he wanted to see his kids, pay support and get visitation.

Too much restraint.

You don't backpedal, you stand your ground.

You backpedal, you trip over something, you fall, etc... Not gonna be a good day.

Stand your ground.

Security guard? Lol
