I was talking to my neighbor the other days and he was telling me that last week at 1 or 2 in the morning some guy was standng on the road just looking at his house (we live out in the country so this is unusual) he watched him for a while and the guy went away. The next night the guy can back and was kicking rocks from the road onto his property and cussing so he went out and ask the guy if he had a fucking problem and the guy started screaming yes he had tons of problems and walking around in circles and mubling loudly so the neighbor called the cops. When the cops got there the jerk hid and they could not find them. The next day he went over to one of the neighbors and confronted her if the jerk was living there and what was going on, she told him the guy was her ex and had done so many drugs he fried his mind and needs to be living in an institution. Fucking Lovely. THe night before last my neighbor says that he saw something move so he looked out the window and then he noticed something moving around the tree at the end of my driveway. The son of a bitch was in my yard and using my small tree to hide that he was there. Needless to say the tree is coming down since we have been talking about doing it for years but this just gives us reason to. I am also installing some security cams and thought I would ask you all if you had any Ideas on the best ones. I am looking for night vision since this guy is usually moving around at 1 or 2 in the morning, I would also like them to be wireless for ease of install and so I can record and notification to my phone. Hopefully someone has some experiance and can give me tips on things to look for and things to stay away from.

Are you totally opposed to doing a wired setup? Depending on what route you go for wireless you might still need to provide power to the unit so its kind of a run a Cat5 for PoE (power over ethernet) or a normal power cable. I know Ring offers wireless cameras that run off battery and supposedly get pretty good life out of them (like 2-4 weeks depending on settings).
I went wired for my setup. I didnt want to deal with changing batteries or if i was running a power wire...might as well just do a Cat5 and PoE instead. I also wanted local storage and not Cloud BS storage. Plus with that i wanted multi day recording capabilities.
One thing i really discovered was that camera setups like Ring offer a mediocre camera (in terms of features) but you get a easy, simple to use interface. When you go with the "kits" with a stand alone recorder you tend to get a better camera (feature wise) but the interface is usually a bit less refined and not as simple to use.
I went with a lechange 16 channel 4k NVR with 8 4k cameras and enjoy it. Well enjoy it as much as i can lol. But having 8 camera lets me really cover every entry way with two cameras

I was hoping to avoid wiring as my home sits so low to the ground that going under to run wires would be a real pain in the ass. In my looking around today I did notice one that caught my eye and that is the Arlo Pro2. It can be plugged into power or run on batteries but is wireless to the main unit and you can plug it into a usb hard drive for home storage of video. The reviews I have read says the night vision is really good and it has 2 way voice. I was thining of running it wired for power for all the features if I get it. plus I can scare the piss out of my buddy the first time he comes over and as soon as I see him by one of the cameras I could hit the alarm....yeah I am an asshole like that.lol

I am in the same boat. Lots of violence the last 12 months here. Recently a woman was murdered with garden shears in her own home. They caught the bastard on camera. Wife read the article and told me to get us set up and now shes real serious about shooting and carrying.
I was looking at the Arlos, Ring, Nest, etc but damn that cost. I looked over the wyze and yi cameras. Almost perfect except the possible "Chinese spying" problem.

Purchased an Arlo Pro bundle from Costco when it was on sale. We’ve had it for a little over two years, and we love it. The only issue is that because it’s not wired, you have to take them down to charge maybe every 45 days depending on usage/motion. Our first year, we paid for the premium subscription, but downgraded to the free subscription without any complaints.
I keep a spare charged and swap them out at my convenience.
If you’re out near Port Orchard, swing by and check it out.

Swann has PoE cameras and a NVR that is hard to beat. I can get recorded data and live video from any location.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro I found flat cords that you can hook to the back of the Arlo and run it threw a window and it keeps the battery fully charged. I just got threw ordering a 2 camera system and then ordered 2 of the flat cord. As a plus you can hook a USB harddrive to the main unit to record to and I have a spare USB hard drive

The one option I did not find I wish these systems had and not a single one had was the ability to connect it to and control an M134 with the system

We have Arlo and are very happy with it. Purchased it with the 3 cameras and have added 2 more. Costco has them on sale for 120.00 off through the end of the month.

I bought a Hikvision and am generally happy with it. https://us.hikvision.com/en/products/ca ... d2085fwd-iI had a Reolink before, but there was no way to disable the IR light on it. At night I would get constant false alerts because the IR light attracted insects and also rain/snow would get illuminated by the light. You can disable the IR light on the Hikvision. The Hikvision can be powered by an ethernet cable and has a microSD (up to 128 GB) slot so you don't need an external hard drive. So you don't need to drill holes in your walls, just run a flat cable under your window like lionhrt said. I hooked up two auxiliary IR lights (search "infrared light for security camera" on Amazon) to the outdoor lights at the front of my house to provide illumination at night. That way, the camera doesn't alert to every moth and raindrop that passes in front of it. The daytime detail is pretty good. Not quite good enough to make out every license plate, but some you can. Nighttime detail isn't very good, even with the added IR lights. It doesn't help that there aren't any street lights around here. If there were, the night detail would probably be much better. If you want to get a Hikvision, make sure you buy from an authorized retailer. I bought mine from an ebay seller, and Hikvision USA refused to give me any support. Also, Amazon is not an authorized seller either.
