$50k?

When it comes to the winding journey of life, it’s important to remember some basic rules along the way. One of them might be, say, “Lock your doors if you’re going to leave a $50,000 assault rifle in a Rolls Royce.”

If it was a transferable M16 (full auto) as the article claims, then he very likely did spend $50k on it.

I see your idiot and raise you a f'in moron director!

An Australian director has been left with only a few dollars and the clothes on his back after a wildfire in southern California burned down his home and the safe where he kept his life savings.

I had all my cash in a safe because I didn’t trust the banks, and that’s now burned down,” Johnson said, adding he now only has $20 and the clothes he's wearing.

People put things a lot more valuable than money in their safes, and many of the fire victims in CA lost all of those items, too. Good decision or bad decision, I still feel bad for the guy.

Thats not a bad idea, just poorly executed.

The safe should have been underground/concrete if it was a huge sum in there. When it comes to large amounts, I think more of a "vault" than safe.

Don't disparage "blinged out 10/22's. I just finished building one. Of course for the number mentioned in the original post I have enough to build 28.5 more

They can get expensive but when you can put a box or good ammo through a dime sized hole at 50 yards (with many groups being almost "one holer's") you just have to be prepared to spend some $$

As for firearm losses in the CA fires, that's a cruel blow. First the State takes away firearms and now the fires.

I question why anyone would want to live in CA. An out of control government, earthquakes, fires, monsoon rains that bring down mudslides in the burn areas, traffic in populated areas that keeps people in their cars for the equivalent to half a work day (2 hours to and from work). Then toss in the gang, immigration, nobody speaking English issue. WTF does California have that attracts so many people? Sane ones that is.

Not quite 'dime sized' holes, but this target with 40 rounds fired down range is a STOCK Ruger 10/22 M1 Carbine replica at 50 yards, 3x9 Leopold scope (38 years old) with Blazer 22LR. No need to build a 22LR IMO. They're fine out of the box, just got to get the right brand and find out what it likes for 22LR.

Speaking as an insurance agent, there's an easy solution to that, unless they are totally one-of-a-kind e.g. Elvis's .38 he used to shoot televisions. Insure the value and keep a record. Good companies won't expect you to provide a list with serial numbers when creating the coverage, but they probably will when you report the loss. If your privacy as a gun owner precludes you from doing that, well, save your pennies...

The NBA player is probably SOL as I doubt he took the time to call and get it insured. Not because he's young, or black...just from the existing evidence of his carelessness.

Bingo.
I keep copies on my computer, external hard drive and paper copy in the safe and insure thru collector's insurance.

Its a very simple Excel spread sheet.
Headers are as such, you can create your own.

Firearms type(Pistols/Rifles/Shotguns)-- Amount Paid-- Serial #-- (See Comments)-- Photos-- Market Value--Inheritance(Willed to)

The Orange/Yellow cells are firearms that I keep with me while living in an RV for 6 months, and those that go into safe storage in Montana.
