I work for a sorry ass LTL company that is catering to the automatic transmission crowd. Most people getting their class A CDL these days can only drive an automatic.

I'm (mostly) a failure here too. I've driven lots and lots of yard haulers, mostly moving containers around a port, but they were all automatics. I've driven a few split axle 15 speeds, but not very well. And not for a very long time, like 30+ years.

It was ~10 years ago ---- new coworker just out of college with an industrial technology degree..... I was wondering why it was taking him so long to drill a hole in a piece of aluminum with a cordless drill - he was cussing and swearing -- walked over to see what was up.... showed him where the forward/reverse switch was --- hole was drilled in 5 seconds...... I just shook my head.

You ought to listen in on me trying to get my car to call either my son or daughter using voice commands.

When I get frustrated I just tell the "voice" to F**k Off and it replies "Sorry, I do not recognize that command".

Worst part is that if the car is moving, the keypad is locked so I can't manually dial (unless I disconnect the phone and risk a ticket by dialing with it in my hand).

BTW, this isn't a problem for just us old farts. My kids and grand kids have the same problem when driving one of their cars that "pairs" the phone with the "Infotainment Center".
