Most of you don't know, but this is a very hard time of year for me. I want you to take this message as a re-enforcement to be truly grateful for the joys in your life. They are taken too soon.
In 2002, I lost my mom to cancer rather quickly on Thanksgiving just 3 days into her 59th birthday, and it was the worst period of my life. 2002 was a terrible period, with death, setbacks, strife and tremendous loss and grief. I'm not looking for sympathy, but I am sharing so that you hug your loved ones extra hard today b/c there is no promise for tomorrow.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Thankfully my mom is still with us but I know what you mean with hug your loved ones. My best friend passed away 1 month ago today, then my grandfather passed away on Friday, then my uncle passed away on Tuesday.
Life is short, make sure your loved ones know you love them and cherish every moment with them.

I am sorry for your loss, R. This time of year is difficult for many for similar reasons. My prayers are with you and yours during this season of remembrance and joy.
I was lucky enough to spend Thanksgiving dinner surrounded by family--my darling brother, his beautiful wife, their children (Elliott, 2 1/2 and Jennifer Jane, 6 months), my sons (now 17 1/2, 14 1/2, and 12 1/2 years old), my father and my stepmother, and Silvana, Dutch au pair to Elliott and Jane. Still, we miss our Grammie terribly at this time of year, and certain little things--like hearing "Silent Night" sung by a choir--will easily bring both my brother and myself to tears. We lost her abruptly in September of 2009 and I really don't think we'll ever recover.
