How do you stop a bad guy with a gun when there's no good guy with a gun around? Maybe throw a hockey puck at him.

A university in suburban Detroit is distributing hockey pucks as a form of self-defense against potential active shooters, according to reports.

Because Oakland University has a no-weapons policy, university police Chief Mark Gordon suggested using a hockey puck to distract a shooter.

"The first thing that came to my mind was a hockey puck. I was a hockey coach for my kids growing up. I remember getting hit in the head with a hockey puck once and it hurt," university police Chief Mark Gordon told Detroit's FOX 2.

Upon Gordon's suggestion, Professor Tom Discenna, president of the faculty union, spearheaded an effort to purchase 2,500 hockey pucks for union members and students, the Free Press reported.

"Eight hundred of them have been distributed to our faculty members and there's an additional 1,700 that I'm working with student congress to distribute to our students," Discenna told FOX 2.

Pretty sure the first targets of a school shooter will be the people throwing pucks at them.

So what does everyone think of a smokeless powder assisted puck launcher?

First things first.....

Can these Students even throw a puck?

They probably all throw like a left handed girl.

Videogaming don't teach that.

AND...

Duct Tape two pucks together and load in a potato gun.....

Years ago our ABS potato guns would easily launch a spud 100yds.

The 'Dudes' could use the Duct Tape and Hairspray they're given in Transfluid class for propellant.

Final Net worked better than WD40.

:ROFLMAO: Trooof!

Hockey pucks are amazingly excellent objects. We have about 200 hundred around here from our decades of family members playing ice hockey with rage.
I am grateful that the anti-2A folks have helped me identify another source of weaponry for the exercise of keeping and bearing arms.
Ah, but I recall probably the best shot with a puck that I have ever personally received. It didn't knock me out. I was playing left defense, scissoring in front of an opponent about to take a shot on net... As I was sliding in front of him, legs scissoring away to block/discourage the shot, my innocent little face, naked to the world, kept sliding closer and closer to the puck's future path towards the net... I vividly recall how time dilated and the words that actually vocalized in my mind as I realized what was going to happen.
"Oh shit. No. Shoot the puck, hurry hurry hurry oh fuck" SMASH! Right in my face at the tip of my nose. It did not break my nose, but did seem to instantly burst every blood vessel and capillary from my upper lip to the middle of my nose, maybe a few more from the pressure wave that traveled around my face.
I popped up super quick and shot to the bench at a good pace. You could trace my path from the front of my net to the bench by the blood on the bright white ice.
At the end of the period the guy who had taken that shot skated over to our bench and yelled "Nice block Mike!"

So on 2nd thought, I withdraw my support for hockey pucks as defensive weapons. Faces work better for defense, pucks for offense.
