My Daughter works in an elementary school at the front desk. She would most likely be the first to encounter a "school shooter" should one show up. At the last Active Shooter Training session the staff was taught to start throwing anything they had near them at the shooter. Idea was to distract long enough so the alarm could go out and teachers could barricade students in classrooms.
Under the current mentality around schools, the hockey puck idea is probably as good as any, short of issuing and training on firearms.
I'd offer a "Hockey Puck Enhancement" to my Daughter if they go that route at her school. A Wrist Rocket along with a bowl of marble sized ball bearings.
Some day our school management will get their heads out of their asses and create more secure schools. Single point of entry with automatic locking doors between reception area and student area. Today most schools have a dozen or more un-monitored and many times unlocked points of entry and exit.
