The comments alone are pure gold. Apparently some people failed geography. SMH I grew up in Alaska and tourists from cruise ships would ask about getting Alaskan money, what elevation they were at, and why there were canoes on the airplanes. https://www.npr.org/2018/11/30/67240195 ... -d-c-clerk

It’s amazing to me, how in this age of information we live in now, how really ignorant people are.

Wow impressive screw-up. Amazing that someone is so oblivious to the history and geography of our own country. New Mexico has a long and rich cultural history as part of the US Southwest. Santa Fe is the oldest state capitol in the US. The state has played a key role in US national security via Los Alamos National Laboratory and Kirtland AFB. The first atomic bomb was tested at Alamagordo on the White Sands range in Central New Mexico.
Our grandson's elementary school does not really teach geography until the higher grades but I spend some time with our grandson every week studying the US states and Canadian provinces in our world atlas. He's learning to recognize all the major mountain ranges and deserts in the US plus both the location and shape of all the US states. Plus my wife teaches him the state capitols. Doesn't take much time and he enjoys it.

I had an engineer that worked for me, used to be a VAX manager at Los Alamos. Said the only problem with New Mexico is all of the new Mexicans. Moved to Redmond because the Seattle area had pro sports teams and his wife was into baseball.

The other excuse is that the clerk "might" have been educated in a foreign country. Of course, none of these things have anything to do with the problem at hand, but then the people that are commenting don't realize that they are really the cause of the problem.......

We need to remember that it wasn't just a clerk that was stupid. A Supervisor was involved too.
Scary part is that imbeciles like this work in our government and have a lot of control over thousands of people's lives.

not sure why there is this geography issue in USA. I am not going to say that I got Ivy league level schooling in third world but hey it was enough to be shocked by how little people know here.

Don't get me started.
I had a German foreign exchange student that went to Lincoln (Tacoma)
His first question after his first day?
'Why are Americans so dumb?'
Apparently he had already learned the shit they were teaching, years ago.... and he got stupid ass questions like 'do you wear wooden shoes' and 'do you live in trees'..... and one guy even asked the Germans re-elected President Hitler....
Yup. That's our public education at work...

I was on a flight to Vancouver Canada years and years ago, back when they gave away a lot more free stuff
Asked for a deck of playing cards and the stewardess smiles and politely tells me "We only give those out on international flights" and quickly walks away

Month later I get MULTIPLE people a day wanting to know why they have hundreds (or even thousands) in International calls or International Data on their bill.... Yup.... I can't tell you how many times I heard 'But, it's Canada, it's not international'....It was funny the first 5 times...... after that, not so much... and some of these people were doctors, well to do businessmen, etc.
