I'm always amazed at what people don't know or understand in how these things work. Of course, they're getting benefits - with US born kids or not. A few years ago, some Congressman got into trouble for yelling "you lie" at Obama over healthcare. Bunch of back and forth about whether illegals were (or would be) getting free healthcare.
Well, they do.
While everyone is distracted by the whole "single payer" or "everyone deserves free healthcare" arguments, I'll tell you first hand, they're lying to you. Somehow, they just ignore this $9.6 Billion expenditure like it somehow doesn't exist. And I've yet to hear anyone bring it up when discussing this stuff.
Everyone in this country - including illegals - can get free (or nearly free) healthcare. The US government funds it through HHS. If you don't believe me, here in Seattle you can call Country Doctor (
https://countrydoctor.org/country-docto ... ty-clinic/) or SeaMar (
http://www.seamar.org/index.html) and schedule an appointment. Clinics like these are in every State and all are required by Federal Law to operate on a sliding fee schedule based on your "
reported" income. Report no income and there's no fee - just tell them you don't have any cash on you right now. They may give you a bill, but they'll never send it to collections. If you have income and insurance, you report it - pay your co-pay and they bill your insurer and you're done.
From the SeaMar website:
Patients will be asked to pay a fee at the time of visit, which varies depending on your sliding fee scale status determination and varies per medical, dental or behavioral health department. Additional charges or fees not paid at time of visit, if owed, will be billed to you with eligible discounts applied.
Sea Mar provides all services regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. I promise you, they won't ask your citizenship and in some locations, if you're an English only speaker, you may have a hard time. I have visited clinics (I'll not say when or where) on business where the front desk had to find someone who could speak English for me to talk to before I could get in. I've had colleagues tell me the same thing about other locations across the country.
Its never what you know that's the problem. Its what you don't know.
