Rescues - They are are more broken down than I am.

So why do I see cute little Dachshunds in the back windows of barely running piles of crap cars that the dog would be worth twice or three times as much as the car?

I'm not looking for a Champion Blood line or anything close. Just a good friendly pet, lap dog.

Suggestions?

Have you tried the local Humane Society or whatever your area calls its shelter? Remember that every friendship takes time. "More broken down than I am" is how every living creature appears to someone who doesn't know them.

Get a rescue dog. We have 3 Chihuahuas that we rescued from 3 different shelters.

Search "Rehome" or "re-home" on craigslist and you will see the "fee" for pets that may interest you. There are rescue websites for every breed of animal you can think of. You can contact them and get on a list for only puppies, very young, full grown or whatever May take a while.

Beware of Craigslist scammers. Lots of puppy mills and sick puppies on there.

Go through a rescue or a shelter.

Petfinder.com is where I got my last pup from. He was from a high kill shelter in California.

Try Boxer Rescue

The three dogs I've had as an adult were all rescue-types. They've all been amazing wonderful additions to my life.

Go to a rescue, shelter, etc. and get a well-behaved older dog who will be overlooked or neglected by families shopping for cute puppies.

Or you could sign up to foster dogs and rotate thru a bunch until you find one you want.

+1 for a rescue dog. Dogs are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. Mutts even more so and generally healthier

If you want a puppy I know a guy who is looking to give away some puppies. I think they are lab border collie mixes. Not 100% but lab mix of some kind.

I tried for a while on Craigslist. Most people were backyard breeders and super sketchy

I lucked out and got mine at the Humane Society. A lot of dogs go before getting posted online so either check the shelter often or go for social media (facebook) as they often post when they get say a group of puppies in. And remember the dogs are often scared at a shelter so can be totally different at home!
