I was following a discussion elsewhere about softness in the private party marketplace for firearms. I will have to say I'm a little less inclined to purchase private party due to the hassle, but have certainly done so. I do realize I'm passing up stuff I would have previously bought, though. It isn't the cost, it's the hassle for me.

Are the restrictions affecting others?

It's definitely more of a hassle now than it used to be, but that isn't the only reason I have been less inclined to buy from private parties lately. The other main reason is that we're currently in a buyer's market with prices on new guns being really low, and private sellers often overprice their guns, so if I can buy an unmolested gun online for the same price or less than a used one, I'll go for the new one. I'm on the hook for a FFL transfer fee either way, so I go the route that saves me more money. That's not to say that good deals from private parties aren't available, because they are...they just get snatched up really quickly, so you have to be one of the first people to see them posted - AND jump on them right away - if you want to score.

I agree, more of a hassle, but that isn't why i've really slowed down. I basically filled all the niches i wanted to. Now it's going to take a great deal or a very unique piece for me to buy something

It's about the same for me. I really don't care if we meet at an FFL for a transfer unless the other party wants to. All 594 had done is make all of us suspect to each other.

Word!

No one wants to be Gheyjays Poster child for Five94.

97.3 FM has a news story today on how well the new Sixteen 39 law is working.....they claim to have snagged a Gangbanger trying to buy, And another purchaser was kept from buying that had restraint papers due to pending Dom. Violence case.

I Highly suspect that a Gangbanger gonna stand/pay for a "legal" transfer..but the other may be possible.

But the "new" laws were not needed for a denial in either case. Existing BGC system pre-Five94 or 16thirtynine would have had the same result.

Someone should let them know that 1639 isn't even in effect yet...

+1 on the source info?

It would look great next to my 4006 laser marked with Cal Parks and the CA state seal....

EDIT: Found a bunch of CHP SN 4006's on Gunbroker.

It's a logistical pain and costs money, definitely less interested.
