I painted with CARC using no breathing apparatus and have lung problems, knees are nothing but steady pain, working around 2 stroke engine's and rifle fire 6" from my ears on the border left me with hearing loss and non stop steady tinnitus (have menieres and left ear shut off 15 year's ago, doc said may be service related and if I lose my right, I fully fucked and will never be able to walk or stay steady again)
I won't go through the process of claiming, I know damned well they'll say not service related and will just keep kicking the can down the road until I die while bleeding me dry in the process.
I have as much faith in the VA as I have surviving self administrated open heart surgery.....

During my ETS physical I made it known I had ringing in the ears but they have made it cleat that it was not service connected.
Menieres is a bitch!!! Im bilateral & have had it since 95 (15 years after ETS from the Army). Major hearing loss is permanent along with the 24/7 tinnitus and the dizziness comes and goes.

Isn't that bed spinning, even though you aren't drunk, fun!?!?!?
Not to mention dry heaves for hours straight....
Doc killed the left side, took a year plus to relearn balance with eyesight. Unfortunately....if it's dark and no lighting, I promptly spin around and bounce into shit before falling on my ass.

I was working out of town when my first major vertigo attack hit, talk about the night from Hell...
My Mom had it too, Dr in Nashville (renowned memieres expert) also took her balance nerve & it took years to get steady (to a point).

What doesn't make any sense at all to me is that the VA is willing to pay civilian nurses (and presumably other medical staff) easily 150% of the standard going rate--and they recruit aggressively. I think the turnover rate must be insane. At any rate, the VA clearly has money--how does it not get directed towards basic stuff like continuity of care?

Mash, I hope this works out. I don't know if it would help but I'm good friends with a case manager down at Madigan, I could theoretically ask him to look into your case. PM me if you want me to see what he might be able to do.

What INFURIATES me is the following. First, the VA is supposed to find any ambiguity or uncertainty in the favor of the veteran. The don't follow that rule in my experience. Secondly, the VA wastes mountains of money. It was reported that the VA spent $20,000,000 on artwork for their buildings. in a decade from 2004-2014. TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS. Two million per year on average. And this is while vets were being denied or waiting for healthcare or even dying while waiting for healthcare. https://abcnews.go.com/US/report-va-spe ... d=40970667
Report: VA Spent Millions on Costly Art as Veterans Waited for Care
By ELIZABETH MCLAUGHLIN Jul 29, 2016, 4:34 AM ET
Quote:
A new report alleges that the Department of Veterans Affairs spent $20 million between 2004 and 2014 on costly artwork.

The expenditures included more than $1 million for a courtyard with a large sculpture at a Palo Alto veterans facility; $330,000 for a glass-art installation; and $21,000 for an artificial Christmas tree, according to the report.

These behaviors result in a LOT of veteran suicides. I'm aware of at least FIVE vets who committed suicide in the VA parking lots.

In a tragic and disturbing trend, veterans are resorting to suicide on the grounds of VA facilities, VA Secretary Dr. David Shulkin said last week.

"As some of you may know, veterans tend to come to a VA -- either drive a car or come to the VA -- and actually suicide on our property," Shulkin said last Tuesday, stressing the need for the Department of Veterans Affairs to do more to curb veteran suicides, estimated at 20 daily nationwide.

And I agree with Glockgirl - I've heard some very bad stories of very toxic nursing in the military and at the VA (these are generally pulled from the same communities/pools of nurses under federal employment). The most egregious was the civilian nurse who cut and burned a military nurse at the VA. He was prosecuted. https://people.com/crime/man-lit-milita ... rd-currie/

A Kansas man was convicted Tuesday of attacking a military nurse with a razor blade and setting her on fire with gasoline at the hospital they both worked at, PEOPLE confirms.

Clifford Currie faces up to 20 years in prison after being convicted of assault with attempt to commit murder for the 2016 attack at a Fort Leavenworth military hospital, a Kansas District Court Clerk officials tells PEOPLE.

On Sept. 7, shortly after 5 p.m., Currie, a civilian who worked in an administrative capacity at the hospital, entered Army Lt. Katie Blanchard’s office with a plastic bottle in his hand containing gasoline. He doused Blanchard, his boss, with the gasoline and then set her on fire, and used a razor blade to cut her, a federal criminal complaint states.

Lt. Blanchard is married to one of our WaGuns members here . . . but I sure can't find the thread on it. :frust:
