Yeah, we've had one of these for probably a couple of years now. We've never actually had to use it to jump one of our vehicles, but we have jumped other people's with it several times. I bought it mostly for my wife's ancient Mercedes because the glow plugs used to suck the battery dry, but I replaced the entire glow system and now that's no longer a problem. Still good insurance to have I think.

So what's the consensus on leaving this plugged in at all times? Deplete the car battery? Ruin the jump start battery?

I'd bet it has a smart charging circuit, I wouldn't worry about it.
I ordered one, thanks!
Have a USB power brick with similar power output.
Don't know if this one could jump my truck but could probably run my small 350 watt AC inverter in an emergency.
Good to keep in the Harley saddle bag.

Lithium Ion chemistry has it's quirks just like any other battery. In short, allow it to become partially discharged before charging it again. Don't charge all the way to 100% (I have an app on my phone that warns me to disconnect at 80%), and never discharge completely.

Here's a decent article on it: https://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five- ... tery-life/

Quote:
In today's mobile world, battery life is precious. If you don't believe me, go to an airport and watch the road warriors. It can get downright nasty when two spot the only available outlet at the same time.

It doesn't take long to learn what helps preserve the current charge on the battery. What's not well known is how to care for the battery itself. That's just as important. Doing so allows the battery to operate efficiently. Here are a few ways to keep your lithium-ion batteries healthy.

1: Keep your batteries at room temperature
That means between 20 and 25 degrees C. The worst thing that can happen to a lithium-ion battery is to have a full charge and be subjected to elevated temperatures. So don't leave or charge your mobile device's battery in your car if it's hot out. Heat is by far the largest factor when it comes to reducing lithium-ion battery life.

2: Think about getting a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, rather than carrying a spare
Batteries deteriorate over time, whether they're being used or not. So a spare battery won't last much longer than the one in use. It's important to remember the aging characteristic when purchasing batteries. Make sure to ask for ones with the most recent manufacturing date.

3: Allow partial discharges and avoid full ones (usually)
Unlike NiCad batteries, lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep-discharge cycles are not required. In fact, it's better for the battery to use partial-discharge cycles.

There is one exception. Battery experts suggest that after 30 charges, you should allow lithium-ion batteries to almost completely discharge. Continuous partial discharges create a condition called digital memory, decreasing the accuracy of the device's power gauge. So let the battery discharge to the cut-off point and then recharge. The power gauge will be recalibrated.

4: Avoid completely discharging lithium-ion batteries
If a lithium-ion battery is discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, a safety circuit built into the battery opens and the battery appears to be dead. The original charger will be of no use. Only battery analyzers with the boost function have a chance of recharging the battery.

Also, for safety reasons, do not recharge deeply discharged lithium-ion batteries if they have been stored in that condition for several months.

5: For extended storage, discharge a lithium-ion battery to about 40 percent and store it in a cool place
I've always had an extra battery for my notebook, but it would never last as long as the original battery. I know now that it's because I was storing the battery fully charged. That means oxidation of lithium-ion is at its highest rate. Storing lithium-ion batteries at 40 percent discharge and in the refrigerator (not freezer) is recommended

Final thoughts
Lithium-ion batteries are a huge improvement over previous types of batteries. Getting 500 charge/discharge cycles from a lithium-ion battery is not unheard of. Just follow the above guidelines.

Got to try out the jumper, jumped two cars yesterday with totes dead batteries. Reading says 75% probably could jump another.

Thanks again OP.

It would probably jump your truck. The key to using these is to connect it, and just let it sit for 5-10 minutes before you try starting.

My truck has two very large batteries (6.6 liter diesel).
Only time I ever needed to jump it was when a spotlight was left on overnight, melted one of my floor mats.
Took over 2 hours on a 50 amp battery charger/booster to get it to start up.
I remember that because my kids were late for school as we waited for it to start.

They make big ones that would probably jump my truck but that's about $150-$200.
And I am once again back on AAA. Free jump starts.

The PSA thread reminded me of this. So my gooloo jumpstarter actually stopped charging. LED would turn on marking 25% battery. Would light up when i plugged it in to charge but it wouldn't charge.

Also the usb ports got misaligned so i could only use 1 side.

Never dropped it on a hard surface, just onto carpetted floor from mattress height.

Sent an email to gooloo, and they asked for a video of it "charging". Recorded a 5min video and sent the link. Didnt reply for a few days so I reached out. They quickly replied "chinese holiday, sorries". Offered a refund as they were sold out. Wanted a replacement til I saw this at costco so they gave me a refund to original amazon purchase.

I'll pick up the costco one ($59.99) next time. Maybe better QA?

Nice that they gave you a refund so far past your purchase date. That speaks well of the company. Update the thread with what you think about the Costco one. They have a great return policy as well.

So I bought 6 of these. Put them in multiple cars or gave them away to family. Never failed me on my Expedition when the battery was on it's last leg.

Today I got a knock on the door. Someone was looking at a house for sale across the street and they needed a jump. I went over and it was a F350 diesel. So it had 2 batteries. My charger was on 25%(I have not used it in 6 months). The truck started right up.
